Litter Action League 2014 We have received the results for the month of June for the Litter Action League. Unfortunately, we are disappointed again with the result we received. In total there was 82 pieces of litter found on the day of inspection, litter consisted of sweet wrappers, bottles, tissues, lollypop sticks and crisps bags. There was also 66 cigarette butts found at inspection. The following is the areas in question-from the speed limit at Coláiste Muire to the Health Centre, from O’Toole's to the speed limit on the Gortfree Rd and from Tourmakeady Woods to the Cemetery. We are asking for your help please to keep the area free from litter and keep Tourmakeady tidy. Thank you!
Bonus number the winners of the Tourmakeady Hall bonus number draw are Nora McHugh and Óige na Gaeltachta each receive €100 for having bonus number 9. Thank you for your support.
Zumba fitness with Pascale, Classes will continue during the summer. Another important date for your diary in Tourmakeady. The 3rd Annual Tourmakeady 10K takes place on Saturday 2nd August, 2014. Start time 1pm. Suitable for runners, joggers and walkers. Route is a loop along the scenic shores of Lough Mask. Water stations along route and refreshments afterwards in the hall. Prizes for first, second and third in male and female categories. Registration is €20 and you can register online (runireland.com) or on the day from 10.30am. This year we also have a 1.5K fun run for children from 9 - 14 years. Register on the day from 10.30am. €5 per child or €10 for 2 or more children from the same family. All proceeds go to the Páirc Spraoi and community projects. Donations of refreshments for the event would be much appreciated!
Tourmakeady Agriculture Show The Tourmakeady Show Committee would like to thank all their sponsors for their continued support for this annual event. Thank you also the local community and all the many visitors who joined us today. Their were many people catching up with friends and family during the day which was lovely to see. The medical support, helpers on the day were brilliant. Thank you also to all the committee who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and well done to our Chairman!. In all it was a great day lovely to see you all and a big thank you again.
Ceol na Locha Music Festival will take place this year from Monday 11th August to 15th August 2014 in Tourmakeady. Brochures with application form are available now in Halla Tourmakeady, O’Toole’s and tourist offices. New Extra Attraction - Puppet Show and Workshop on Wednesday evening 13th August in the hall at 7pm. All welcome!
Cemetery Mass - next weekend is cemetery weekend in the Ballovey Parish, which covers Tourmakeady. Partry Mass will be celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., in Churchfield Cemetery, Tourmakeady, and Friday, August 1, at 6.30 p.m., in Ballyovey Cemetery, Partry, on Sunday, August 3, at 10 a.m. followed at Tourmakeady Church Cemetery at 11.30 a.m.
Everyone is invited to share the weekend in the parish. It is always a lovely time and with the grounds in all cemeteries in great condition parishioners are asked to give a make over to the family plots.
Sympathy Our sympathy is extended to Pat and Eileen Joyce (Sheridan) of Westport and Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady, on the death of Sheila Joyce, Pat’s mother, in Leenane, Co. Galway. Sheila was laid to rest on Tuesday, July 22, in Leenane Cemetery. May her soul rest in peace.
We extend our sympathy to Aoife Heraty and Rickie, Tourmakeady, on the death of Aoife’s dad, Gerry Heraty, Taoibh na Croiche, Westport. Burial took place on Saturday, July 19. Our sympathy is also extended to Gerry’s wife and all the Heraty family. May his soul rest in peace.
Draw Winners Latest winners of Partry residents’ bonus number draw on July 19 were Maureen Byrne McKeon and Padraic Conroy, both of whom win €100 for having number 17. The next draw is on Saturday, August 2.

A fun day in aid of Console will be held on August 9. Registration starts at 11 a.m. in Máire Luke’s. The options are a 10km or 20km walk or a 62km or 92km cycle. The adult fee is €20 or an €80 family fee.
Console is a national prevention and intervention suicide charity with centres in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Kerry, Athlone, Wexford, Mayo, Kildare and London, that offers counselling and support to families, children and work colleagues who have lost someone to suicide. A barbecue will follow.
After school care Partry After School Committee are looking at the possibility of setting up a breakfast and after school childcare service for children in the Partry and surrounding areas.
They hope this service will be started for the coming school year. If you think breakfast or after school childcare would be a help to you, please contact Karen at (086) 8180657.
To start with the committee have devised a questionnaire that will help identify the needs for after school childcare in the area.
Over the coming week the Partry After School Committee will be conducting a survey of homes in the local area. They would be grateful if you would complete the questionnaire when they call. If it doesn’t suit a member of the committee will return to collect the completed questionnaire. Your participation is voluntary and confidential.
Féile The Lough Mask Inn will host the annual Féile on Sunday, August 3. Proceedings kick-off at 8 p.m. with a barbecue followed by an open air concert with music by Phase. Tickets are on sale in the Lough Mask Inn, Village Inn and O’Toole’s. All proceeds go towards the development of facilities at Pairc Naomh Mhuire,

Congratulations St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady, was the perfect setting as the summer sun shone high in the sky on Saturday, July 19, for the joining in holy matrimony of Miss Kathleen Sheridan, daughter of Mary and the late Peter Sheridan, Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady, with Mr. Alaric Funk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Funk, Moura, Queensland, Australia.
The lovely ceremony was performed by Fr. John Kenny, P.P. Readings were given by Peter Joyce, nephew of the bride and Patricia Funk sister of the groom also Mikey Joyce, Peter Sheridan, Michael Sheridan and Stephanie Corcoran.
Communion reflection was given by Niamh Cunningham. Beautiful music was given with song by Shona and Sarah O’Malley.
The bride was handed over in marriage by her brother P.J. Sheridan. Chief bridesmaid was Eileen Joyce, sister of the bride and Davina Bourke, a friend as bridesmaid. Best man was Derek Nicholson, a friend of the groom and Pat Joyce, nephew of the bride as groomsman. The flower girl was Aisling Sheridan and page boy was Jack Sheridan niece and nephew of the bride.
Following the official duties of St. Mary’s a reception was held and enjoyed by all at the Plaza Hotel, Westport. Good luck to Kathleen and Alaric for a long and happy life.

Re decoration of the Church Following the talks of last weekend at Tourmakeady Mass, work should be underway redecorating of St. Mary’s Church.

The Tourmakeady Agriculture Show all roads will lead to Tourmakeady on Sunday 27th July 2014 for the Annual Agricultural Show. It will be held at the GAA pitch! It promises to be a great day out for all the family.- enter one or all of the many attractions - The various categories are sheep, horses, and all the other categories photography, vegetables, pets corner, cookery and crafts. There will be lots of sideshows, sports and various games with many refreshments stalls. An exciting extra in 2014 is The Best Dressed Lady, which will create great excitement to the day. Judging will take place at 3pm. Gates will be open from midday - see you on the day!

Colaiste Muire draw The winner of the Colaiste Muire, Tourmakeady 50/50 draw on Friday, July 11, was Sean O’Eanachain as Goirtin Mor. Tickets are on sale throughout the parish and also at Corrigan’s Ballintubber and Mace, Ballinrobe.
Mid-summer gathering A packed house is expected at Maire Luke’s, Tourmakeady, tomorrow (Wednesday) night, for the annual mid-summer gathering with a star studied programme led by Seamus Moore and his J.C.B., T.R. Dallas, Frank McCaffrey, Breege Cleary, Michael Kelly, and Frank Nelson. Doors open at 9 p.m. and there is a free car park. The Usual Friday night dancing is on July 25. The Sunday special menu operates from 1 to 7 p.m. Dial a menu at (094) 9544080.
Summer camp Tourmakeady GAA are running their summer camp from yesterday (Monday), to July 25 for boys and girls. The cost per child is €40 for a fun filled week. Further information is available at (087) 6504512.

Partry Trout Anglers The Partry Trout Anglers held their annual children’s competition on Sunday, July 6, in ideal conditions. Results: 1st Isabelle Feerick, 2nd Liam Dowling, 3rd Sean Horan, heaviest fish Eabha Egan. Thanks to the Lough Inn, Michael McKeon and all who helped on the day.

The Tourmakeady Agriculture Show all roads will lead to Tourmakeady on Sunday 27th July 2014 for the Annual Agricultural Show. It will be held at the GAA pitch! It promises to be a great day out for all the family.- enter one or all of the many attractions - The various categories are sheep, horses, and all the other categories photography, vegetables, pets corner, cookery and crafts. There will be lots of sideshows, sports and various games with many refreshments stalls. An exciting extra in 2014 is The Best Dressed Lady, which will create great excitement to the day. Mid-summer gathering A packed house is expected at Maire Luke’s, Tourmakeady, tomorrow (Wednesday) night, for the annual mid-summer gathering with a star studied programme led by Seamus Moore and his J.C.B., T.R. Dallas, Frank McCaffrey, Breege Cleary, Michael Kelly, and Frank Nelson. Doors open at 9 p.m. and there is a free car park. The Usual Friday night dancing is on July 25. After-school committee Partry after-school committee are looking at the possibility of setting up a breakfast and after-school childcare service for children in the Partry and surrounding areas.

Sympathy We regret to record the death of Mrs. May Lally, Derryveeney, Tourmakeady.
She was born May McGing in Churchfield in 1924. May was a hard-working lady, with much of the farm and housework done manually prior to all the washers and dishwashers or the baler and tractor.
She married Tommy Lally and moved to Derryveeney and they were blessed with two sons and five daughters.
May was a regular contributor to the annual Waterfall Magazine since it foundation in 1987. She loved to meet and share her memories of younger days. She was mother of the famous actor Mick Lally. Like his mother, he loved to mention Derryveeney and Tourmakeady.
Large crowds assembled to bid farewell to one of Tourmakeady’s better known mothers and parishioner May Lally. Her remains were removed to St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady, on Monday, July 7, and burial took place on Tuesday following 11 a.m. Mass celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., assisted by Fr. Padraig Lally, a family relative from Kildare, and Fr. Desmond Grogan, Partry.
Readings were given by Maeve and Liam, grandchildren of May. Music and song was given by the Staunton family.
Predeceased by her husband in 2013 and earlier by her son Mick in Dublin, May is survived by her son Tommy, daughters Teresa, Marie, Sarah, Nuala and Rita, also her daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grand-children, sisters Annie and Bea, brothers Jim and John, her many cousins, neighbours and extended family. May her soul rest in peace.
Entertainment Back on stage at Máire Luke’s Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, on Friday night, July 18, are John and Caroline Eaton, a brilliant duo with a programme for young and old. Coming on Wednesday, July 23, is Seamus Moore and lots of friends.

Text alert A text alert committee meeting was held last week in Tourmakeady area. It covers the district from the Ferry Bridge at Finney to Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady.
Full details of the system will be announced later. This new alert area will tie up with the Partry text alert, which will then link-up from the Feery Bridge to Keel Bridge making it a safer zone to live in.

GAA lotto There were no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA local lotto held at O’Toole’s, Tourmakeady, on June 21. The numbers chosen were 5, 25, 26 and 31 and the consolation winners were Sinead Gossan, Treenlair, John and Fiona Heneghan, Churchfield, Margaret and Mattie Heneghan, Tawnagh, Chris McGing, Glenmask, and Tom Prendergast, Shraheen. The next draw will be on July 5 at the Lough Mask Inn with the B team on lotto duty. Tickets, at €2 each or three for €5, are on sale throughout the parish.
Bonus number Well done to Cathy and Jim O’Neill, Partry on winning the Partry residents’ bonus number on June 21. They receive €100 for having number 21. There’s still a few vacancies for anyone wishing to join.
50/50 winner The winner of the Colaiste Muire 50/50 weekly draw on Friday, June 20, was Tom Whelan, Trianlair. Tickets, €2, are on sale now in Corrigan’s store, Ballintubber, and Finlay’s of Ballinrobe. Half of the proceeds go to the colaiste every week. Thank you for your support to date.
Sympathy We extend our sympathy to Phil and Brian Fallon, Churchfield, Tourmakeady, on the death in Chicago of their aunt, Cathy Keane, sister of the late Bridgie Fallon. Cathy was laid to rest in Chicago. May she rest in peace.
Death The death has taken place of Sean Heneghan, Clonee, Partry, in his mid-eighties following on illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Terasa.
Sean was laid to rest in Ballyovey Cemetery on Saturday, June 28. He is survived by daughters Mary and Ann, sons Noel, Tommy, Seamus and Sean also daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren also extended family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.
