Tourmakeady Woods Walk
THE second in a series of walks - in conjunction with The Tóchar Valley Rural Community Network, will be held on Saturday April 24th at 10.30a.m meeting at O Toole’s Pub, Tourmakeady.
Depending on success of these walks it is hoped that similar walks will be held in the Tóchar Valley areas over the next few months.
Beautiful woodland walk and including Tourmakeady waterfall, marvellous scenery- partially on road and partly on forest track. Suitable for beginners. Level of fitness required moderate. Please bring suitable footwear, rain gear and bottle water. Walk will last for 2 hours at a moderate pace. Ideal family walk.
The annual Churchfield Cup
ON Sunday, April 25, Tourmakeady trout anglers are holding the annual Churchfield Cup.
All anglers are asked to be at Churchfield Bay, at 10.15 a.m. on Sunday morning. The cup will be presented on Sunday evening.

NOREEN Maloney will read at the 8 p.m. Mass on Saturday. Eucharistic Ministers are Julia Lally and Brid Heneghan. John Power will read at the 11.30 a.m. Mass on Sunday. Eucharistic Ministers are Martin O’Neill and Mary Sheridan.
On church care week are Rose, Mary and Noreen. All Mass servers are asked to attend their appointed Mass.
Group water scheme
SUBSCRIPTIONS are due for the group water scheme and should be paid at Tourmakeady post office before May 1. The amount is all houses €50. A house with farm €200. Business premises €200.
Ladies success
TOURMAKEADY ladies footballers defeated Westport, on Sunday last, in Westport, on a score of 2-16 to 2-8. Well done.
Sincere sympathy
SYMPATHY is extended to the Burke family, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady, on the death in Youngstown, Ohio, USA, of Mrs. Mary Burke, widow of the late Micheal Burke, formerly Cappaduff. Mary was laid to rest in Youngstown. She is survived by her family and extended family. May her soul rest in peace.
Junior angling competition
THE first junior angling competition of this year takes place on Saturday, April 24. All anglers are asked to be a Churchfield Bay, at 11 a.m. A great day is assured.
Oliver and Martin on stage
ON stage at Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, on Friday, April 23, are Oliver and Martin, with a great programme. On Sunday, April 25, the traditional Irish music night takes place, with song and dance. And, on April 30, Linda Welby and Cois Tine perform.

First All-Ireland boxing title
CONGRATULATIONS to Frank Carr, son of Frank and Brid Carr, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady, who won his first All-Ireland Irish boxing title, on Friday, April 9, in Dublin.
This is a great achievement for the young Tourmakeady boy, who with the Staunton brothers have worked very hard all winter in training.
The training takes place at St. Ann’s boxing club, Westport. Frank is grandson of Frank and Nancy Carr, Cappaduff and also Maureen Heneghan, Tawnagh, Srah.
Bereavement
THE death has taken place in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, of Mrs. Julia Devlin. She was formerly Julia Madden, Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady. In her late 60s, Julia was a regular visitor with her husband Peter and family to Tourmakeady. Burial took place in Co. Tyrone.
Sympathy is also extended to Peggy Thornton, Carheen, Tourmakeady and Christy Doneghoe, Tawnagh, Srah, on the death in Chicago USA, of their brother-in-law, Jack O’Donnell, who was husband of Brid Doneghoe, Tawnagh, Srah.

GAA lotto winners
THE local lotto continues to rise following the recent draw with no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 17, 20, 25 and 28. The draw for the next jackpot of €7,300 will take place in The Village Inn, Partry, on Saturday, April 17.
The consolation winners were Séoidin and Mike Staunton, Kilkerran, Partry; Irene Farragher, Partry; Clare Walsh, Jimmie Heneghan, Goirtin a Colle and Seamus Gibbons, Trianlar.

WELL done to Tourmakeady GAA, who had a great day in Croke Park, on Friday. The club want to thank all the players, parents and supporters without whom the day could not have happened.

First All-Ireland boxing title
CONGRATULATIONS to Frank Carr, son of Frank and Brid Carr, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady, who won his first All-Ireland Irish boxing title, on Friday, April 9, in Dublin.
This is a great achievement for the young Tourmakeady boy, who with the Staunton brothers have worked very hard all winter in training.
The training takes place at St. Ann’s boxing club, Westport. Frank is grandson of Frank and Nancy Carr, Cappaduff and also Maureen Heneghan, Tawnagh, Srah.
Bereavement
THE death has taken place in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, of Mrs. Julia Devlin. She was formerly Julia Madden, Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady. In her late 60s, Julia was a regular visitor with her husband Peter and family to Tourmakeady. Burial took place in Co. Tyrone.
Sympathy is also extended to Peggy Thornton, Carheen, Tourmakeady and Christy Doneghoe, Tawnagh, Srah, on the death in Chicago USA, of their brother-in-law, Jack O’Donnell, who was husband of Brid Doneghoe, Tawnagh, Srah.

THE latest winners in Partry of the bonus number game were Mary Burke, Portroyal and Morley garden centre. It is €100 to each for choosing number 22. The next draw is on Saturday.

THE local lotto continues to rise following the recent draw with no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 17, 20, 25 and 28. The draw for the next jackpot of €7,300 will take place in The Village Inn, Partry, on Saturday, April 17.

A FASHION show in aid of Partry Athletic FC will take place in Partry community centre, on Friday, April 9, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost €15 each and this includes a wine reception. The compere for the night is well-known award winning journalist and broadcaster Liam Horan. Come along and check out the latest fashions and enjoy a fun-filled night. Choir practise for holy week
A CHOIR practise for holy week takes place in St. Mary’s church, Tourmakeady, on Wednesday, March 31, at 7.30 p.m. sharp. All singers, males and females are urgently asked to come along.
Mayo county ploughing championships and trade show
This year the 30th annual Mayo county ploughing championships and trade show will take place on Sunday, April 18.
The event which is extremely popular, will be hosted on the farm of Pat and Ann Regan, at Newbrook, Claremorris.
With over 10 categories of competition and numerous other side events, a large attendance is expected again this year.
There are also extra teams for the horse competitions expected from many parts of Ireland.
This year’s event will also feature Sergiy Khimich, a Cossack styled, horse stunt rider, who will demonstrate astonishing displays of horse riding.

Bereavement
THE death has taken place of Mrs. Bridie Carmody, Partry, in the Friars nursing home, Ballinrobe.
She was formerly Bridie Prendergast and was in her 93rd year. She was predeceased by her Co. Clare born husband, Paddy Carmody, in 1996.
Since his death Bridie received great care from her neighbours, the Harrington family.
They helped her look after her farm and gave her a daily meal. She also received great care from the nursing staff at the nursing home.
Large crowds turned out to say farewell to a great character from the parish. On Thursday, her remains were removed from the Monsignor Horan community centre, to St. Mary’s church, Partry.
Burial took place in Ballyovey cemetery after 12 noon Mass, celebrated by Fr. Michael Farragher cc, Castlebar and a former neighbour of Bridie, in Partry.
Bridie is survived by her cousins in Partry, Killawalla and Tourmakeady and also extended family in Co. Clare. Also her neighbours in Partry. May her soul rest in peace.
Defibrillator for old phones
EVERYONE is reminded to drop off all old or used mobile phones to Máire Lukes or Tourmakeady post office, so they may be exchanged for a defibrillator.
New baby boy
CONGRATULATIONS to Seamus and Sara Lally, Tawnagh, Srah, Tourmakeady, on the birth of their baby son Mark, at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar. Baby Mark is brother to Faith and grandson to Brenda and Jim Lally, Gortnacullin, Srah, Tourmakeady.
Special birthday celebrations
CONGRATULATIONS to the Tourmakeady GAA footballers, who had special birthday celebrations at the weekend. Paul Staunton, son of Pauline and Joe Staunton, Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady, celebrated his 21st birthday and Michael Kelly, son of Kitty and Michael Kelly, Treenlair, Tourmakeady, celebrated his 18th birthday. They are both prominent members of the Underage and senior GAA scene.
They both celebrated with families and friends at a joint function in Máire Lukes.
Restaurant reopening
PADDY’S restaurant on the shores of Lough Mask, Tourmakeady, will be reopening on Easter Sunday and every Sunday thereafter, between 1 p.m. or 8 p.m. until October. Reservations can be made at (094) 9544005, Monday to Saturday or (094) 9544243, on Sundays. A bouncing castle is provided.
Senior team in action
TOURMAKEADY senior team take on Islandeady, on Sunday, at 12 noon, in round one of the Mayo 2010 senior league. Full support for the home team is requested. The game will take place in Tourmakeady.
Passion play
ON Tuesday, March 30 and Wednesday, March 31, the passion play will take place in the Mayo Abbey grounds, at 9 p.m. It is the 22nd year of the passion play. It is a very spiritual experience, which has captured the imagination of people from all parts of the country.

Hall Renovation Update

Recycling
DUE to work in progress at the hall the recycling bins have a new temporary location it is at the picnic area in Shanvalleyard - where the big stone Failté is. You are reminded not to leave litter on the ground or the roads.
Safety Reminder to all Walkers and in particular CHILDREN
PLEASE make sure that children are visible at night. Reports have been received of young children walking in the village without any reflective clothing. Drivers cannot see walkers at night in unlit areas.
Citizen’s advice
A CITIZEN’S information officer will be in attendance in the hall, on April 21 2010 from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The officer has information on social welfare, health board payments, taxation, housing and single farm payments. The service is available in English and Irish.
Annual tea day for Western Alzheimers
THE annual tea day for Western Alzheimers takes place on Friday, April 9, in the Tourmakeady area. Hosts are Eileen and Sean Barker, at Néad and Droilin, Tourmakeady.
Choir practise for holy week
A CHOIR practise for holy week takes place in St. Mary’s church, Tourmakeady, on Wednesday, March 31, at 7.30 p.m. sharp. All singers, males and females are urgently asked to come along.
Mayo county ploughing championships and trade show
This year the 30th annual Mayo county ploughing championships and trade show will take place on Sunday, April 18.
The event which is extremely popular, will be hosted on the farm of Pat and Ann Regan, at Newbrook, Claremorris.
With over 10 categories of competition and numerous other side events, a large attendance is expected again this year.
There are also extra teams for the horse competitions expected from many parts of Ireland.
This year’s event will also feature Sergiy Khimich, a Cossack styled, horse stunt rider, who will demonstrate astonishing displays of horse riding.
