TICKETS are on sale now for a major raffle to take place on Sunday, December 5, in Tourmakeady hall. All proceeds go to the hall renovations. The top prize is €1,000, €500 and €300. The sellers of the winning tickets receive €100, €50 and €50 respectively. Tickets are on sale throughout the parish.
Special Irish night of culture
Thank you to everyone that attended this special culture evening. Thank you to our sponsors Údarás na Gaeltachta for all their help, Fior Uisce for supplying us with their very special Tourmakeady natural water, and John and Sara Power for their constant generosity and support with the beautiful flowers. Thank you to those that worked tirelessly in the kitchen and for the support serving refreshments. Thank you to the Tourmakeady Music Group that played, sang and danced for us on the night. Thank you to our visitors for coming such long distances. We have had a very positive feedback and it was a great night for Tourmakeady. Thank you all again.
Boxing tournament
THERE will be a boxing tournament in Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh, on Friday, November 26. at 8.00pm. There are 15 bouts during the evening and local boxers will be taking part. Everyone is welcome.

TAKE the hassle out of driving into town. There is a bus every Friday leaving O’Toole’s at 10.30 a.m. Free passes are accepted. It is open to all. Other collection points are available. It returns at approximately 3 p.m.

Tourmakeady weekly lotto continues to rise
THE Tourmakeady weekly lotto continues to rise and on Saturday the numbers chosen were 6, 11, 14 and 18. Consolation prizes went to Breda O’Neill; Ann Ronan, Churchfield; Paddy Lally, Partry; Eileen O’Malley, Killawalla and Brendan Dolan, Churchfield. Tickets at €2 or three for €5 are on sale throughout the parish.
Sudden and unexpected death
THE sudden and unexpected death took place on Friday, November 12, of John Gibbons, Gortmore, Killeteaun, Tourmakeady. In his 37th year, his untimely death has cast a cloud of shock and sadness throughout Tourmakeady and the surrounding areas.
John was well-known mainly as an employee of Mayo County Council but also in haulage transport. He was a hard working man both at his place of work and also on the family farm, where he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
A large crowd of sympathisers passed through his home on both days while John reposed. On Monday his remains were removed to St. Mary’s church, at Tourmakeady, for 11 a.m. Mass, which was celebrated by Fr. John Kenny p.p. assisted by Fr. Michael Gormley, Achill. Readings were given by Brid Heneghan and Dean Glendon, aunt and nephew of John. Reflections were given by Ciaran and Geraldine, brother and sister of John. Music and songs were presented by Pat and friends of the family.
A guard of honour was drawn from Mayo County Council from all branches, headed by county manager Mr. Michael Burke, county secretary Mr. Peter Hynes and accompanied John’s remains on his final journey to Churchfield cemetery.
John is survived by his mother Ann Gibbons, son Dylan, sisters Geraldine, Christine, Fiona and Yvonne, brothers Brian and Ciaran; also Andrew Peadar, Willie, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a large circle of cousins, workmates, friends and neighbours. May his soul rest in peace.
Ladies dinner dance
TOURMAKEADY ladies footballers, Mayo champions, are having their dinner dance on Saturday, December 4, at Paddy’s Restaurant, Tourmakeady. NEXT weekend will mark the commencement of Advent. National school children will decorate a Jesse Tree for Masses during Advent. They will also bring home and Advent calendar. Walk with Me, a journey of prayer for Advent and Christmas will be on sale for €1 and copies will be available after Mass.

24th edition of Waterfall Magazine gone to print
THE 24th edition of the Waterfall Magazine has gone to print. Hopefully it will be on sale in mid-December for the Christmas post.
The hard working, voluntary committee are thanked for their work and in turn the committee members are grateful to everyone who contributed photos, articles and advertisements. Outstanding payments are now requested and photos should be returned in the next few weeks. It is hoped this edition will be one of the best ever.

Bereavement
THE death has occurred of Peter Lydon, Cappencreha, Tourmakeady, at his residence on Saturday, October 30. He was better known as Peter Lackey. He passed away from an illness, which he never complained of and he always kept the brave side out. He was a hard worker and worked both in England and at home.
Huge crowds paid their respects at his home and on Monday his remains were removed to Finney church, from his home for 2 p.m. Mass with burial later in Churchfield cemetery, Tourmakeady.
Peter is survived by his wife Noreen, daughters Jacqueline, Mary, Michelle and Caroline, son Lackey, sisters Mary, Brid, Peggy, Elizabeth and Noreen; brothers Paddy, Tommy, Malackey and Jimmie. Also grandchildren and extended family members, neighbours and friends. May his soul rest in peace.

Another Reminder about Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Community Futures Surve
PLEASE fill in the survey that will be delivered to you this week. It is completely confidential. It would be very helpful to have your views on the future of Tourmakeady. It will help Community Futures and local community organisations identify priority projects for Tuar Mhic Éadaigh.

Weekly service to Castlebar
TAKE the hassle out of driving into town. There is a bus every Friday leaving O’Toole’s at 10.30 a.m. Free passes are accepted. It is open to all. Other collection points are available. It returns at approximately 3 p.m.

Hard luck to Tourmakeady
TOURMAKEADY bid farewell to the 2010 Connaught title on Sunday last, in an exciting game. They gave in to St. James, of Galway City, having missed nine wides.
Tourmakeady had a good year in 2010. The result on Sunday was St. James 0-11 to Tourmakeady 0-8.
On Saturday in the local lotto, the numbers chosen were 22, 25, 26 and 28. Consolation prizes went to Miko McDermott, Partry; Linus Purcell, Letterineen; Mary Dever, Goirtin a Colle; John Heneghan, Partry and Tom Mulhearn, The Lough Inn, Partry. Death in the USA THE death has taken place in the USA of Mrs. Bridie Scollar, daughter of the late Kathleen and Padraig Boyle, formerly of Churchfield, Tourmakeady. Bridie is survived by her family in the USA and also a sister of Mary Hayden, Michael, Martin, Sean and Frank Boyle. Bridie was niece of Bridgie Lally, Derrendafderg, Srah. May her soul rest in peace. There will be Mass in Tourmakeady in November.

WELL done to Conor Duffy, son of Cathy and Tom Duffy, Derrendaferg, Srah, on his latest song release Small Town Saturday Night. It can be heard on several local radio stations. It is a follow-up to his big hit Still Missing Someone. Conor is attached to Corrigan Store staff, Ballintubber and is grandson of Eileen Duffy, Derrendafderg.

Bereavement
THE death has taken place at his residence of Michael Ronan, Churchfield, Tourmakeady. He was known locally as Mick Ronan, born on March 5, 1923.
He was a hard-working man and a good neighbour and a great farmer. He was married to Philomena for 52 years. He loved it when his family came on holidays from different countries and he had great love for all his grandchildren.
Large crowds attended his funeral on both days and at his home. He reposed at his home and his remains were removed to St. Mary’s funeral home to Tourmakeady church. Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. John Kenny p.p. assisted by Fr. James Quinn, Taugheen. Readings were by his granddaughters. Burial took place in Churchfield cemetery.
Mick is survived by his wife Philomena, sons John, Churchfield; Gerard, Manchester; Dermot, USA, daughter Mary, Taugheen, Claremorris; Ann, USA; Eileen, England, sister Sr. Maire, Dublin, also grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law and extended family. May his soul rest in peace.
