Death
The death has taken place of Ann Marrey, Upper Churchfield, Tourmakeady, at the Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar.
Known locally as Nan, she was a resident of Friar’s Lodge Nursing Home for 18 months. She was a good neighbour and loved to visit and be visited. She socialised with many groups in the Tourmakeady area.
In her youth Nan worked at Partry House and for the Lynch family. She immigrated to Canada and then to England where she worked for many years, and during this period she travelled widely. She returned home to care for her mother and brother and to look after the family farm. Nan was a much-valued member of the Tourmakeady Over 60s Club and she loved the weekly visits to Castlebar.
Nan loved to read and would converse on many aspects of modern day topics. She was a devout Christian and attended church on a regular basis.
Her remains were removed from St. Mary’s Funeral Home to Tourmakeady Church where they were received by Fr. John Kenny, P.P. Burial took place in the family plot after Mass celebrated by Fr. Kenny assisted by Canon Desmond Grogan.
Readings were given by her nieces Ann Burke Hegarty and Mary Addison while prayers of the faithful were read by Judy Burke and Noreen Gibbons. Hymns were sung by Noreen and friends and neighbours of Nan’s. Her favourite song, ‘Dear Doctor John’, was sung by John Power.
She is survived by her nieces Ann Burke Hegarty, Mary Addison and Ann Casey, nephews Paddy Casey, Kevin King, Michael Hegarty, Bob Addison and John Casey, extended family, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
May she rest in peace.

Death
The death has taken place at his residence in Trianlar, Tourmakeady, of Mr. Martin Heaney, aged 89. He was pre-deceased by his wife Brid in April 1989.
Martin, a native of Pullbaun, Hollymount, was the last member of his family and was well-known in the community and through out many parts of south and west Mayo. In 1950 Martin married Brid Heveran, Tourmakeady, who ran the local public house. This was later to become the Lough Mask Inn.
When they retired from bar work they took up residence close by. He was a great family man and he loved his grandchildren and, more recent, his great grandson Martin was a regular Mass-goer and had his own seat in St. Mary’s, which now is handed over to his son Sean.
He had a great love of sport and was a great supporter of Tourmakeady and Mayo. In the mid-sixties when Tourmakeady GAA Club was formed Martin, then a committee member, solved a major problem for the club when he had over a field to the club as a playing ground.
The GAA club in Tourmakeady are grateful to the Heaney family and the guard of honour at his funeral was a thank you to Martin. One of his proudest moments was in Croke Park when his granddaughter, Martha O’Malley, won an All-Ireland medal with Mayo.
He loved to meet friends and could converse on any subject from sport to politics.
Large crowds gathered to bid farewell to Martin and pay their respects.
Burial took place following Mass celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., assisted by Canon Desmond Grogan and Canon James Quinn, Taugheen. Readings and prayers were by Martin’s family and grandchildren. Hymns were played by Noreen and Clan Ui Mhaille. Reflections were given his son Sean and son-in-law Brian. ‘Moonlight in Mayo’, one of his favourite songs, was played as his remains left the church.
He is survived by his son Sean, daughters Mary, Brid, Ann, Claire and Cathy, sons-in-law Brian and Padraig, grandchildren, great grandson, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family, neighbours, Trish and Irene, past customers and friends. May he rest in peace.
