THE death has taken place, following an illness, of Andy Gibbons, Goirtin A Colle, Tourmakeady, and Tawnagh, Srah (and also Tooting, London). Andy, in his 75th year, was a member of a well-known family in Tourmakeady. He emigrated to England in his younger years, like many of his neighbours and friends. Large crowds paid their final farewell at the weekend when his remains were removed from St. Mary’s Funeral Home, Tourmakeady. His niece Nina and John had looked after Andy in his final years.
Funeral Mass was on Monday and was celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P.
Readings were given by Andy’s nieces Margaret Heneghan and Barbara Byrne.
Reflection was delivered by his nephew Brian Gibbons. Music and song were by Sarah and Sheona O’Malley.
Andy is survived by his sisters Mary, Kathleen, Noreen and Delia, brothers Paddy, Tim and Martin, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a large circle of cousins, neighbours and card players.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.

He worked hard whilst he was there and visited his homestead on a regular basis.
Some years ago Andy returned to Tourmakeady. He loved his quiet life and enjoyed his social life, including card playing, and he was one of Mayo’s loyal supporters.
Thanks
Bridie Begley, Mairead Begley and Elaine Maree, on behalf of Mayo Roscommon Hospice, would like to thank everyone who sponsored them or donated prizes or helped out in any way. The sum of €4,142.10 was raised for this worthy cause. Well done to these ladies with strong Tourmakeady links.
