Farewell to Tom Lydon
LARGE crowds travelled to Tourmakeady last weekend, to bid farewell to one of its better known parishioners and sportsmen Tom Lydon, Treenláir, Tourmakeady, in his 65th year.
He was a great family man and had a keen interest in all sports but GAA was his number one. He wore the first number one when his beloved Tourmakeady was formed in 1965.
Tom was also well-known throughout Mayo, being a staff member of Senator Windows, Castlebar, until his illness.
He reposed at his home on Friday and Saturday and endless crowds attended from throughout Ireland, as well as England and the USA.
On Sunday, his remains were removed to St. Mary’s church, Tourmakeady, for 11.30 a.m. Mass, celebrated by Fr. Padraig Standún cc Tourmakeady. Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery.
