Summer recess for swimming club
ON Saturday next, May 29, the very successful Tourmakeady Partry Swimming Club will go into its annual summer recess. It will be the final day of swimming and buses will run as normal at 12 noon and 1 p.m. The annual presentation awards will take place at 2 p.m. in Castlebar and all parents are invited to Castlebar for this great presentation day.
Local ladies in Dublin mini marathon
ON Monday, June 7, three well known Tourmakeady ladies will take part in the Dublin mini marathon with all proceeds going to the Tourmakeady Swimming Club. The three ladies are Jackie Heneghan, Rosaleen Molloy and Annemarie Heneghan. Sponsorship cards are available locally and all possible support would be greatly appreciated.
21st birthday party
CONGRATULATIONS to Miss Naoise O’Toole, daughter of Cathy and Kevin O’Toole, Tourmakeady, who celebrated her 21st birthday with a function in her honour at Paddy’s Bar and Restaurant. Naoise is granddaughter of Tomas and Bide O’Toole, Tourmakeady and Nora and Sean Lydon, Killeteaun. She is sister to David, Ciarra and Richard O’Toole.
Sad passing
THE death has taken place at The Friars Lodge Nursing Home, Ballinrobe, of Mrs. Bridgie Lynch, Ballinrobe and formerly Bridgie Lally, Derrasa, Srah, Claremorris.
She was in her 91st year and was preceded by her husband, John, in England in the mid-1990s. Bridie then moved to her native Mayo.
On Monday, May 17 her remains were removed to Tourmakeady Church from St. Mary’s Funeral Home. Burial took place in the family plot after 12 o’clock Mass celebrated by Cannon Desmond Grogan, Partry. Readings were given by her niece Coileen and grand nephew Michael Joe. Psalm was sung by her nephew Tommie Heneghan. Prayers of the Faithful were given by Anita Heneghan, grandniece. Bridgie is survived by her sister Kathleen, Chicago, Nieces and nephews in Chicago and Ireland. May her soul rest in peace.
Agricultural Show committee meeting
THE next meeting of Tourmakeady 2010 Agricultural Show Committee will be held on Thursday, May 27, in Tourmakeady Hall at 9 p.m. New members and new ideas welcome. The show is on July 5.
Film for charity
A GALA night, Sex in the City, will take place on Friday night next, May 28, at the Castlebar cinema in aid of Niall Mellon Township Trust. There will be a cheese and win reception and free cocktails afterwards.

THE numbers drawn in this week’s Tourmakeady GAA lotto, which was held on Saturday, May 15, were 5, 18, 28, 32 and consolation winners were Karen Hegarty Rowland, Padraig and Aine Lydon, Ceapadhubh, Gerry Hughes, Breaffy GAA, Tony McDonald and Tommy Mulhern.
Senior team win
TOURMAKEADY senior team had a good home victory over Garrymore on Saturday in summer type weather before a big crowd. The halftime score was Garrymore 0-7, Tourmakeady 0-6.
However, a more determined and victory seeking home team played a second half and two brilliant goals in the fourth by Brian Naughton and the 18th by top scorer Kevin Dolan sealed the issue and Tourmakeady ran out easy winners and the final score Tourmakeady 2.13, Garrymore 0-11.
Juvenile summer camp
TOURMAKEADY GAA Club is holding a juvenile summer camp for a week beginning Monday, July 5, for all boys and girls attending Tourmakeady and Kiltane schools, as well as underage football teams.
Activities will be from 10a.m. to 2p.m. daily. Fees are €40 for the first child; €30 for the second and third and €100 for a family; such fees to be paid prior to June 1, to Frank Carr, at Bord na nÓg. The motto is support your local club.
Citizen's advice
A citizens information officer will be in attendance at the hall, on Wednesday, June 16, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. with information on social welfare, health board payments, taxation, housing and single farm payments.

Tochar Phádraig pilgrim walks
THE TOCHAR Phádraig pilgrim walks from Ballintubber Abbey to Croagh Patrick take place on Saturday, May 29, departing the Abbey at 8.30 a.m. This is the first one for this year. A back up car will accompany the walkers at Murrisk.
Pride of Place awards
PARTRY has been nominated to partake in the national award competition for Pride of Place. If the offer is taken up it will call for a concerted effort on behalf of all the villages. A meeting will be held in the near future to decide on what will be done. It is an acknowledgement of all that has been done and is a privilege to have been so invited.

Summer camp
TOURMAKEADY GAA club is holding a juvenile summer camp, for a week beginning Monday, July 5, for all boys and girls attending Tourmakeady and Kiltane schools, as well as Underage football teams.
Activities will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Fees are €40 for the first child; €30 for the second and third and €100 for a family; such fees to be paid prior to June 1, to Frank Carr, at Bord na nóg. The motto is support your local club.
A Dunne double at fishing competition
LAST weekend in Tourmakeady, the fishing competition was classed as a Dunne double, for popular local man Mick Dunne, Gortinmore, Tourmakeady. He won the competition on Lough Mask and was presented with the deceased members cup. He was also elected as safety officer, for the local club, on Lough Mask. He will be charged with keeping all anglers safe by highlighting the dangers.
It is a great achievement for Mick, who is well-known in Westport as a member of the staff at Allergan.
Dublin City Marathon competitors
THREE Tourmakeady ladies will take part in the 2010 Dublin City Marathon, at the bank holiday weekend, June 7. They are Jackie Heneghan, Roseleen Molloy and Ann Marie Heneghan. Please support them and the local swimming club; cards are in the shops.
New baby boy
CONGRATULATIONS to Angela and John McNally, Tourmakeady and Newport, on the birth of their son Joey last week. Baby Joey is grandson for Frank and Nancy Carr, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady.
First Communion
THE 2010 first communion ceremony took place at St. Mary’s church, Partry. It was performed by Canon Desmond Grogan, Partry. Eight young boys and girls took part being Therese Brady, Rose Daly, Michaela Burke, Montana Mills, Cormac Burke, Eoin Egan, Mark Harrington and Ben Horan. Well done to everyone concerned.

TOURMAKEADY has been selected as one of the four areas in County Mayo that has been given the opportunity to work with community futures to develop our own action plan for the future. All the clubs and organisations and everyone in the community will be invited to contribute to the plan. Work will commence in September and in between there will be further information and updates. It would be to our great advantage to have an input from all sections of the community.

THERE will be a meeting on Tuesday, June 1, in the hall at 8.30 p.m. to arrange an appropriate send-off for Father Staunton to his new ministry. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.
Bereavements
THE death took place at Mayo General Hospital of Mr. John Joyce, Maamtrasna, Finney, in his 80s. He was known locally as John Bartley Joyce.
He was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 2001. His remains were removed from Burke’s funeral parlour to Finney church, on Friday, May 14. Burial took place in Churchfield, Tourmakeady, on Saturday, following 12 noon Mass.
John is survived by his sisters Mary and Bridgie, brothers Peter and Martin, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law. May his soul rest in peace.
Also the death has taken place in Friers Quarters nursing home, of Mrs. Bridget Lynch, formerly Bridget Lally, of Derrasa, Srah, Ballinrobe and England.
Her remains were removed from St. Mary’s funeral; home Tourmakeady, to the local church on Monday, May 17. Burial took place on Tuesday, after 12 noon Mass. Bridget is survived by her nephews and extended family members.

Summer camp
TOURMAKEADY GAA club is holding a juvenile summer camp, for a week beginning Monday, July 5, for all boys and girls attending Tourmakeady and Kiltane schools, as well as Underage football teams.
Activities will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Fees are €40 for the first child; €30 for the second and third and €100 for a family; such fees to be paid prior to June 1, to Frank Carr, at Bord na nóg. The motto is support your local club.
Under 14 footballers win title
TOURMAKEADY Under 14 footballers captured the 2010 Under 14 round the lakes title, with a hard fought victory over The Neale, at a sunny Páirc Naoimh Muire,
Tourmakeady.
A good crowd was kept on its toes until the final whistle. The half time score was Tourmakeady 1-4 to The Neale 1-1. Mike Burke, scorer of the Tourmakeady goal, which was the opening score of the game and also the first of Burke’s total tally (1-8). Other scorers were Danny Walsh and Jack Forde, who started for the winners plus Kevin Lally, David Harrington, Darragh McConnell and captain Luke Mulroe, plus Sam Forde. The full time score was Tourmakeady 1-10 and The Neale 1-7.
Mayo GAA senior star Donal Vaughan, presented the medals to winners and losers.
Ballinrobe Under 14 team won the shield final on a score of Ballinrobe 4-6 to Clonbur 1-13.

Bereavement
THE death has taken place of Mrs. Mary Williams, formerly Mary Durcan, Trianlar, Tourmakeady.
Having emigrated to England, Many years ago and having worked there in the nursing profession and married Walter Williams, she loved her work and was excellent in her position.
Following her retirement and the death of her beloved Walter, Mary returned to her native Co. Mayo and resided in Castlebar, a place she loved and she kept in close contact with Tourmakeady, the place where she was born and reared.
On Tuesday, May 4, Mary’s remains were removed from St. Mary’s funeral home to Tourmakeady church. Burial took place after 12 noon Mass on Wednesday, celebrated by Fr. Padraig Standún cc, Tourmakeady.
Requiem hymns were sung by Clán Uí Mhaille. Tourmakeady national school pupils, teachers and parents provided a guard of honour on removal day.
Mary is survived by nieces Mary and Breege Timoney, nephew Gerard and extended family and friends. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Wedding bells
ST. Mary’s church, Tourmakeady, was the setting for the marriage of Mr. William Barker, son of Eileen and Sean Barker, Trianlair, Tourmakeady and Ms. Sheila O’Connor, daughter of Francis and the late Christy O’Connor, New Street, Ballinrobe.
The bride was handed over by her brother Martin O’Connor. Chief bridesmaid was Shauna Barker, Emer Barker, Noreen O’Connor and Tara Tighe. Best man was Martin Mulroe. Groomsmen were Peadar Barker, Diarmuid Coyne, Chris Monaghan and Kieran Gibbons. Flower girl was Laura O’Connor; page boy was Jonathan Hyland; ring bearer was Christopher Hyland.
Hymns were played and sung by Frank McCaffery. The ceremony was performed by Fr. Padraig Standún cc, Tourmakeady. Readings were given by Cyril Hyland and Michéal Coyne.
Following the official duties at St. Mary’s, Sheila and William hosted a reception at the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, where all the guests, some of whom had travelled from the USA and UK, enjoyed a great evening. The happy couple are wished the best for the future.

Swimming club annual gala
TOURMAKEADY/Party swimming club will be holding its annual gala on Saturday, May 15. Only one bus will leave O’Tooles, at 12 noon on that Saturday and depart from the pool, at approximately 3.30 p.m. As there is only one bus travelling on that day, support from parents would be greatly appreciated. The fee for the session is €5.
Western care door-to-door collection
WESTERN care door-to-door collection will take place in the Tourmakeady area in the month of May. As always full support is requested and please have donations ready for the collectors.
Fishing competition
THE annual European Cup fishing competition will take place next weekend on Lough Mask. Each year competitors from Ireland and beyond come to spend the weekend fishing. The weigh-in is usually on Sunday, at 6 p.m. at Gortmore Bay.
The celebration dance takes place on Sunday night, May 16, in Máire Lukes, with Henry McGlade on stage, starting at 9.30 p.m. On Friday night in Máire Lukes The Coasters will be on stage.

TOURMAKEADY has been selected as one of the 4 areas in County Mayo that has been given the opportunity to work with Community Futures to develop our own action plan for the future. All the clubs and organisations and everyone in the community will be invited to contribute to the plan. Work will commence in September and in between there will be further information and updates. It would be to our great advantage to have an input from all sections of the community.

TOURMAKEADY/Party swimming club will be holding its annual gala on Saturday, May 15. Only one bus will leave O’Tooles, at 12 noon on that Saturday and depart from the pool, at approximately 3.30 p.m. As there is only one bus travelling on that day, support from parents would be greatly appreciated. The fee for the session is €5.

Senior team win
TOURMAKEADY senior team got on the Mayo league trail with a good win over Kiltane, on Saturday last, in Tourmakeady, on a score of Tourmakeady 1-10 to Kiltane 0-7. The goal came from top scorer Kevin Dolan, who had a total of 1-4 to his credit for the day. It was a great all round performance, with some level of football to look forward to for the summer.

Summer camp
TOURMAKEADY GAA club is holding a juvenile summer camp, for a week beginning Monday, July 5, for all boys and girls attending Tourmakeady and Kiltane schools, as well as Underage football teams.
Activities will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Fees are €40 for the first child; €30 for the second and third and €100 for a family; such fees to be paid prior to June 1, to Frank Carr, at Bord na nóg. The motto is support your local club.

ON stage at Máire Lukes bar and restaurant Tourmakeady, on Friday, April 30, are Linda Welby and Cois Tine. A big crowd is expected to see this group who have recorded many songs and CDs.

Bereavement

THE Tourmakeady ladies earned a draw in the Mayo ladies division two of the league, despite usual and strange decisions. Tourmakeady gained a precious point and the final score was Tourmakeady 2-10 to Claremorris 2-10.

A CITIZEN’S information officer will be in attendance in the hall, on Wednesday May 19, 2010 from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The officer has information on social welfare, health board payments, taxation, housing and single farm payments.

THE recycling bins have a new location at the picnic area in Shanvalleyard, near to the Fáilte stone. Please do not leave litter on the ground or on the roads.

ON stage at Máire Lukes bar and restaurant Tourmakeady, on Friday, April 30, are Linda Welby and Cois Tine. A big crowd is expected to see this group who have recorded many songs and CDs.

Bereavement

Burial takes place on Thursday, April 29, in Birmingham. Mary is also survived by her daughter Ann, sons Michael, Bernard and Pat; son-in-law; daughters-in-law; nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Mary was aunt to Mrs. Ann Heneghan, Goirteenmore, Tourmakeady. May her soul rest in peace.

WINNERS of the Partry residents bonus number draw, on April 24, were Padraic O’Malley, Kilfaul and Jacqueline Brady, Newtown, both of whom get €100 each for having number 26. There will be more winners on May 1.

THE annual Mass at Our Lady’s Shrine, at Tourmakeady, will take place on Saturday, May 1, at 6 p.m. The Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Padraig Standún cc Tourmakeady. Everyone is welcome.
GAA lotto results
THERE was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA lotto on Saturday, April 24, in Máire Lukes. The numbers chosen were 10, 22, 29 and 30. The consolation winners were David Prendergast, Gortmor; James Staunton, Shanvallyard; Séan Seoighe, Trianlar; Michael Meeneghan, Drimcoggy and Catriona Farragher. The next draw will take place on May 1, at Paddy’s Bar and Restaurant, on Saturday. Tickets at €2 each and three for €5 are on sale throughout the parish.
Swimming club
ALL outstanding fees for the swimming club should be paid by May 1, at the latest. The annual swimming gala takes place on Saturday, May 15.
Traditional evening at Máire Lukes
SUNDAY, May 2, is traditional evening at Máire Lukes, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the Paddy Hoban show will be in the lounge, with a programme for young and old. On Tuesday, May 4, all the ladies of the parish are invited to see and buy jewellery.
Draw for Tourmakeady ladies
THE Tourmakeady ladies earned a draw in the Mayo ladies division two of the league, despite usual and strange decisions. Tourmakeady gained a precious point and the final score was Tourmakeady 2-10 to Claremorris 2-10.
Visitors to the area
HOME on vacation in Tourmakeady from Chicago USA, are Michael Lydon and Mary Kate Cooney, who is on her visit to Tourmakeady. It is hoped they have a good stay.
Céilí venue changed
THE céilí arranged for, Saturday, May 1, will now be held at Ballyheane community centre because of the work going on at Tourmakeady community centre. The doors open at 9.30 p.m. and Matt Cunningham and his band will play; with tea and raffles Céad mile failte roimh gach duine.
