Death
It is with deep regret we record the sudden and unexpected death of Mr. Philip Staunton, son of Mary and the late Michael Staunton, Drimcoggy, at his residence on April 17. He was aged 61.
Better known as Phil he was a tireless and hard-working member of the community. A draughtsman by profession he helped out many people in the local community and was involved in the improvements to Colaise Muire, the major renovations to Tourmakeady Hall and other projects at the time of his death. Phil loved sport, especially GAA, and boxing and represented Tourmakeady in the boxing ring.
Some years ago, Phil and his Roscommon-born wife Ann, moved back to Tourmakeady from Dublin. They both became involved in the Tourmakeady Agricultural Show. He was a great farming man and was a member of the Lamb Direct business and was involved in all aspects of sheep farming.
Phil was a good family man and was adoring husband to Ann and good son to his mother and members of his family.
It was very much evident how popular Phil was at the large turnout of his removal. His remains were taken from his home to Tourmakeady church where Mass was celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., assisted by Fr. Desmond Grogan, Partry.
Readings were given by Phil’s sister Helen and nephew Michael Staunton and other nephews and nieces read the prayers of the faithful. A lovely reflection on Phil’s life was given by his sister Ann. Burial took place in the local cemetery.
Phil is survived by his wife Ann, mother Mary, sisters Ann and brother-in-law Simon, Athlone, Helen and brother-in-law J.J., Galway, Marion and brother-in-law Michael, Srah, Tourmakeady, brothers Tom and sister-in-law Maura, Tourmakeady, Michael John and sister-in-law Olivia, Roscommon, Martin, Drimcoggy, aunt Nora Walsh and Tony in Killawalla.
