LITTER ACTION LEAGUE 2015 Month: September (1st Half) Area: Tourmakeady Marks Awarded: 80 Inspection took place in the morning. The area from the Post Office to the speed limits on the Cong Road there was 6 pieces of litter noted, consisting of paper and sweet wrappers, plastic bottle and cigarette boxes. On the stretch of Road to the church there was 4 pieces noted of plastic wrapper, bottle, and drink cup noted. On the Gortfree Road there was 2 pieces of litter visible. From the Post Office to the Community Centre and towards speed limit including Lough Mask Inn and School there was 8 pieces of litter noted, these were plastic bottles, paper and plastic wrapping.and paper cup. Next judging will take place at any stage from the 17th to 30th of September. The semi finals and finals will take place in October. Draw for September 2nd Half Ballindine v Balla Tourmakeady v Louisburgh Mulranny v Cong Kilmaine v Bangor Erris. Let's do our best to get a better place in the competition than we had previously.

South West Mayo Development Company (SWMDC) will be holding a Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) registration clinic in Tourmakeady Hall on Thursday, 1st October from 7.30 - 10 pm where people register their interest in forthcoming courses. SICAP offers a range of courses (e.g. HACCP, Safepass, Manual Handling, Occupational First Aid, Personal Effectiveness) free of charge to eligible people, which includes the unemployed (regardless of whether they are on the Live Register). The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme 2015-2017 is funded by the Irish Government and co-funded by the European Social Fund and includes a special allocation under the Youth Employment Initiative

On the stretch of road to the Church this was litter free From the Post Office out the Cong road 6 pieces of rubbish was noted, which consisted of a pipe, paper and plastic wrappings. Along the Gortfree Road 5 pieces of litter was counted, consisting of a crisp packet and sweet wrappers. Matches for the first round of judging in September, 2015. Judging will take place anytime from 3rd to 15th of September. The second set of judging will take place at any stage from the 17th to 30th of September. To all Community Groups: Planning is now underway for the LEADER element of the Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020. It is expected by January 2016 the Dept of the Environment, Community & Local Government will decide on who will deliver the new LEADER programme in Mayo.
The Local Community Development Committee (Mayo County Council), South West Mayo Development Company, Mayo North East LEADER Partnership Company and Comhar na nOileán Teo are coming together to draw up a county wide plan- a Local Development Strategy (LDS) – for the new LEADER programme. They are now seeking the input of communities for the community aspect of the plan. In this community-led process , a number of community consultation meetings throughout the county will take place so that every area and community has the opportunity to have its needs and ideas for local community projects included in the community element of the LDS. A consultation meeting will take place at the following venues. Thur 10th Sept in Ballintubber Community Centre at 7.30pm. Wed 9th Sept in Ballinrobe Parish Centre at 7.30pm. ‘Buy a Brick’ 6” x 9” We had a request during the organisation of the 2014 Chicago Reunion Fund Raiser for Páirc Spraoi to find a location to feature memory bricks. These bricks would commemorate people from the area or events that happened in the area. If you are interested and would like to purchase a brick you can get an order form from Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh or you can contact 094 95 44295 or 087 1162058.
