Tranquil Tourmakeady can leave you breathless – part reprinted courtesy of John Melvine, The Connaught
Telegraph “Tranquil Tourmakeady with the magnificent Lough Mask in the
background provided the setting for the first of the Walk of the Lakes series,
although this was more of a walk in the beautiful woods, where over 200 men
women and children turned out to support an event which raises funds for local
community projects. The scenery is
simply stunning and left me breathless in more ways than one, the 8k walk
itself fairly demanding on aging limbs, but it was the raw beauty of a
landscape shaped from limestone ....... Tourmakeady seems have struck a chord
in my inner self. Organising such an
event is not easy but it does help if the weather stays good and it certainly
smiled on the efforts of the local community who banded together to ensure the
event went off smoothly. This was a
classic example of local organisations pooling their human resources and it
really epitomises what community spirit is all about.......”
‘The Drone’ operated by Conor O’Toole did us proud previously showing us views over the ever popular Páirc Spraoi. On Saturday it was fantastic to see the Tourmakeady 8k Great Lakes Challenge Event recorded by the drone and giving so much detail of the event. We are very grateful to all the photographers and to Conor with his illuminating view of Tourmakeady. Absolutely brilliant to be able to convey some of the many activities taking place in Tourmakeady.
St Patrick’s Day and the Parade. There will be a short meeting on Wednesday 4th March at 700pm to discuss the details of St Patrick’s Day. All very welcome!
