Week ending 31st July 2011
Hello to everyone in Tourmakeady,
Just an update to let you know how I’ve been getting on. We have been in Vietnam for almost six weeks now. We have spent most our time in a cancer hospital in Can Tho city. The doctors are great and we’re been learning a lot but the conditions for the patients and the facilities are pretty poor. We also spent some time out in a more rural general hospital which was a great experience as well as in an orphanage for disabled children where we heard some very sad stories. The people have been extremely welcoming and we are having some great experiences. As a group we have raised thirteen thousand euro (a lot of which came from the people of Tourmakeady). We have been discussing how this can be best spent here to improve things for the patients (I will let you known when we have made a decision). Hope to be in touch again before too long and will try to send some pictures also.
Thanks again, Rónán (Rice)
