FORWARD NOTICE
RENOVATION work will soon be commencing on the hall. The hall will still be in use while most of the work is in progress, however when the roof is being renewed we will not be able to use the hall and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience. A GENERAL meeting of gun club members in Tourmakeady will be held at O’Tooles, Tourmakeady, on Thursday, November 26, at 9 p.m. All members and new members are asked to be in attendance.
Fundraiser in aid of Scoil Náisiúnta Thuar Mhic éadaigh
A PACKED house is expected at Máire Lukes, Tourmakeady, on Friday night, November 27, for the visit of Matt Keane and friends for a huge fundraiser in aid of Scoil Náisiúnta Thuar Mhic Eadaigh.
There will be raffles and spot prizes and tickets are on sale throughout the village and the support of the community is requested. Doors open at 9 p.m. sharp.

Night of poetry, music and craic
THE Lough Inn, Partry, is the place to be on Friday night, November 27, for a night of poetry, music and craic, with many more surprises in store. Support is requested for the local talent and Partry’s heritage group. The doors open at 9 p.m. and the show starts at 9.30 p.m.

Parish mission
THE Ballyovey parish mission, Partry and Tourmakeady, will get underway on Sunday, November 29, at 7 p.m. in Tourmakeady and Partry and will conclude on Saturday, December 5, at the 7 p.m. Mass in Partry and 8 p.m. Mass in Tourmakeady.
It will continue each day with 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Mass and mission at 8 p.m. in both churches. All activities in the parish should be arranged around the mission times for this week and a good turnout is expected by the visiting priests.

Bereavements
THE death has taken place in Chicago USA, of Mrs. Sarah McGing, formerly Sarah Collins, Shanvallycahil, Tourmakeady. She was laid to rest in Queen of Heaven cemetery, Chicago, following 10 a.m. Mass on Tuesday, November 17.
Sarah is survived by her husband John, daughters Eileen, Linda and Maureen and sons John, Joseph and Kevin. She was sister-in-law of Mary Collins, Shanvallycahil, Tourmakeady and Mai Lally, Derryveeney, Tourmakeady. May her soul rest in peace.
Also the death has taken place after a long illness of Mrs. Nora Flynn, Srah, Tourmakeady, Claremorris, in her 93rd year.
Formerly Nora Naughton, Ballybannon, Tourmakeady, she was the last member of a very popular family to be called to her eternal reward.
She was the postmistress of Srah post office for many years. She had the task of sorting the letters and parcels in the pre-technology era and always with a pleasant smile.
Her illness confined her to a wheelchair and she received wonderful care from her family, especially Mary and home assistant Nancy Carr. She was in the comfort of her home until the final weeks of her life.
Large crowds bade farewell to this gentle and popular post mistress.
On Wednesday, November 18, Nora’s remains were removed from St. Mary’s funeral home, to Tourmakeady church, where they were received by Fr. Padraig Standún cc Tourmakeady.
Burial took place on Thursday, November 19, after 12 noon Mass, in the new cemetery, Tourmakeady.
Mass was celebrated by Fr. Padraig Standún, assisted by Canon Desmond Grogan, Partry; Fr. Michael Farragher, Castlebar and Fr. Joe O’Brien, Abbeyknockmoy.
Readings were by her sons Gerry and Peadar. Prayers of the faithful were by Michael and David Flynn, grandsons.
Requiem hymns were given by Marian Fadden and Tomas O’Máille. Communion reflection and appreciation were given by Mary Flynn, daughter and Peadar Flynn, son.
Nora is survived by her husband Michael, daughter Mary, sons Joe, Peadar and Gerry; daughters-in-law Marie and Margaret; also grandchildren, Una, Claire, Matthew, Michael and David, nieces Bridgie Staunton, Nora Tierney, Rita Nestor, Ballintubber, nephews Tommy Lally, Carheen, Pat Naughton, Ballybannon; also nieces and nephews in London, Parkridge and Chicago. As well as a large circle of cousins and neighbours. May her soul rest with the Lord.

She was laid to rest in Hastings. Julia is survived by her husband Willie and their family. Also sister Bridie Heneghan, Clonee, Partry and Mary Lally, Kilfaul, Partry and brother Tommie McHale, Killawalla.
Also sincere sympathy is extended to Mrs. Kathleen O’Malley, Srah and Sean Lydon, Killiteaune, Tourmakeady, on the death of their sister Mrs. Mary Cunningham (nee Lydon), in New York, recently. Burial took place in New York. Mary was sister-in-law of Nora Lydon, Killeteaun. May their souls rest in peace.

PARTRY AFC as part of recommendations from the Irish Sports Council is required to appoint children’s officers whose primary function is to establish and maintain a child centred ethos within the club. Carer for child with special needs
WESTERN Care Association and the HSE are looking for a carer to be involved in the future care of a five year old boy with special needs. Swimming club
Swimming will resume on Saturday, November 7 and fees will be collected on that date in O’Tooles and the Village Inn, Party. There will be an extra swimming day on Saturday, December 19.
Any child wishing to join the swimming club can pick up an application form from committee members Sarah Mulroe, Siobhan Flynn, Jackie Heneghan, Jacqueline Brady or Bernie Munroe.
New baby boy
CONGRATULATIONS to Niamh and Thomas Prendergast, Drimcoggy, Tourmakeady, on the birth of their son John last week. Baby John is a proud brother for Joe and grandson for Bridie and Tommie Prendergast, Drimcoggy.

Recession beater
ONE thousand items sale, in aid of the Niall Mellon Trust, takes place in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar, on Friday, November 6, at 8 p.m. This fundraising is for Martin Munroe, Partry, who is taking part in the building blitz in November. Sale prices range from €3 to €40. Have your eyebrows threaded at special discount prices. There is an auction for an evening dress by top Irish designer Deborah Veale. Admission is €5 and includes a raffle.

THE weekly dance band will continue at Máire Lukes bar and restaurant, on Friday, November 6. On Sunday, November 8, it is traditional music and song night, from 8 p.m. until late. THE over 60’s club will meet on Thursday, November 12 at 1.30p.m. There will be light refreshments, music and bingo in the hall. Everyone is welcome.
Citizen’s advice
A CITIZEN’S information officer is available in the hall, on the third Wednesday of each month. The next date is November 18, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. The officer has information on social welfare, health board payments, taxation, housing and single farm payments. The service is available in English and Irish.

Insulation
ANYONE who is on social welfare, unemployed, in receipt of the pension / fuel allowance may be eligible for standard subsidised insulation of their home for a payment of €125.00. Forms are available in Tourmakeady Hall.

THE Social Welfare officer is in attendance at the Medical Centre on Wednesdays 12 noon to 1.00pm

PLEASE wear reflective clothing while out walking - in particular at night.
Recycle facility activities recorded
EVERYONE in the community is asked to use the recycling bins properly and not to leave bags, boxes or other items on the ground. Cameras are installed at the hall, so every movement is recorded. Similarly activities are recorded at Tourmakeady church, so bin users are asked to use the proper bins and not to leave rubbish lying around.
Week long mission and confirmation
THE week long mission takes place in Tourmakeady and Partry churches, from Sunday, November 29, to December 5. Confirmation day is on Friday, February 26, 2010, at St. Mary’s church, Partry.
