Annual over 60s visit to Knock
The annual visit to Knock will take place on Thursday June 9, with the bus leaving O’Toole’s at 9.30 a.m. and Mass at 11.45 a.m. The cost is €25 which includes the bus and and a three course lunch. the active retired group’s variety concert in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, is on Wednesday, May 25, starting at 8 p.m. It will be an evening of music, song, dance and storytelling. There will be a sponsored walk on Sunday, June 12, at 3 p.m. starting at Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh. The walk will take us to the historical grounds of Drimbaun House, which was once owned by Robert Shaw. The Coiste would like to thank Ronnie and Doris Wilson for giving permission for the walk to take place in the grounds. There is a choice of shorter walks if desired. Refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards. Sponsorship cards are available in the hall or telephone (094) 9544295.

Weekly bus service to Castlebar
Don’t forget that there is a weekly bus service to Castlebar. Take the hassle out of driving into town. There is a bus every Friday leaving O’Toole’s at 10.30 a.m. Free passes are accepted. It is open to all. Other collection points are available. It returns at approximately 3 p.m. Please support this worthwhile service.
First Communicants
ON Sunday, May 22, 21 children in the parish of Partry-Tourmakeady received their first communion.
First down the aisle were seven boys and girls at St. Mary’s church, Partry, for 10 a.m. Mass, celebrated by Fr. John Kenny P.P.
Congratulations to Ruth, Ciarra, Rachel, Lee, Oisin, Molly and Clodagh and their parents and also the teachers of Partry national school.
At 11.30 a.m. in St. Mary’s church, Tuar Mhic Eadaigh, 14 boys and girls from Scoil Tuar Mhic Eadiagh and Choill a tSidheain, received their first communion. They were Aoife Lally, Sean O’Brien, Meadhbh Whelan, Jamie Walsh, Fiona Molloy, Laura Gibbons, Mairtin Carr, Aoife Tiernan, Rebecca Ronan, Eamonn Heneghan, Laoise Mulroe, Fionn Conboy, Sean Og Heneghan and Maitiú MacGibúin. Congratulations to the teachers and choirs at both Masses.
Death in London
THE death has taken place following a long illness, of Michael Vahey, London and formerly of Rathnaguppaun, Ballinrobe, in his late 70s.
Having lived in England for many years, he never lost touch with Ireland, Ballinrobe and also Tourmakeady, where he worked at Colaisti Muire for many years.
He met Nora Morrin, Ballybannon and they married in 1961. They were a happy couple, always caring and sharing. They travelled and enjoyed their 50 years of married life.
Michael was a great community man and deeply involved in the Irish Centre.
They loved to visit the old homestead on a regular basis and enjoyed the parish Waterfall Magazine and all Irish papers.
Michael’s wish was to complete his journey in Tourmakeady and on Thursday, April 28, large crowds paid their respects at St. Mary’s church. Later his remains were removed to Tourmakeady church, on Friday, April 29. Burial took place following 10 a.m. Mass, celebrated by Fr. John Kenny P.P. Tourmakeady.
Readings were given by Padraic and Lorraine, nephew and niece of Nora and Michael respectively. Music and song were by Cian and Aoife Morrin, grandnephew and niece of Nora Vahey, with the Byrne family.
Michael is survived by his loving wife Nora, sister Mary, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and a large circle of cousins and relations, both in Ireland and England. May Michael’s soul rest in peace.

TOURMAKEADY GAA Club is holding a monster night of camel racing, at Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, on Sunday, June 5. There will be a sponsored walk on Sunday June 12 at 3.00pm. Starting at Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh the walk will take us to historical grounds of Drimbaun House, which was once owned by Robert Shaw. The Coiste would like to thank Ronnie and Doris Wilson for giving permission for the walk to take place in the grounds. Choice of shorter walks if desired.
