COMMUNITY FUTURES/RURAL ALLIANCE  Mayo Community Futures and Rural Alliances invite all community groups and organisations in the Community Futures and Rural Alliances areas to a networking meeting on Monday, October 13, in the Fáilte Suite, Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar, at 8 p.m.

Fiona Cunnane from Volunteer Mayo will give a presentation on encouraging volunteerism and Newport Community Futures will give a presentation on the impact of their Community Futures development plan in their community.

This is a networking opportunity for communities to meet with representatives from other groups and communities to share their experiences, ideas and approaches. Light refreshments will be served.

LOTTO The Tourmakeady GAA local lotto has toppled the €11,000 jackpot, with a draw on Saturday, October 11, at Máire Luke’s. Tickets, at €2 or three for €5, are on sale throughout the parish. Last week’s number were 4, 19, 22 and 23.

Consolation winners were Michael Thornton, Carheen, Judy Burke, Cappaduff, Martin Lardiner, Tuam, Mary S. Heneghan, Goirtin a Colle, and Judy Burke, Cappaduff.

WATERFALL COMMITTEE The annual Waterfall parish magazine committee are busy collecting material for the new edition. All material must be in by October 20. REMINDER A reminder that the big white collar boxing night in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, takes place on Friday, October 17. All proceeds go to Tourmakeady GAA sports hall, who are organising the event.

Doors open at 7.30 p.m. The first fight is at 8 p.m. Admission is €20. A bus will leave the Village Inn, Partry. Names should be given to Paul now.

SYMPATHY The death took place in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, on September 24 of Colm Malone, aged 70, suddenly, son of Nancy and the late Mick Malone.

Mick was well known in the Tourmakeady area as he was caretaker/steward at Colaiste Muire, Tourmakeady, and later with his sons came fishing on his beloved Lough Mask.

Colm was laid to rest in Castlerea. He is survived by his wife Bridie, four daughters, two sons, mother Nancy and extended family. May his soul rest in peace.

CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations once again to Sean Barker, Tourmakeady, who got the All-Ireland champion 2014 for his stallion, Gortfree Hero, at the All-Ireland championship for stallions held in Laois recently.

It has been a hectic year for Gortfree Hero as prior to his All-Ireland victory he also got gold at the horse show in Dublin last August.

Well done to Gortfree Hero and the Barker family at Treenlair, Tourmakeady.

50/50 DRAW well done to David Lydon, c/o Coláiste Muire, on winning the 50/50 in the weekly draw held on Friday, September 26.

18th BIRTHDAY Congratulations to Saorise Gibbons, daughter of Christine and Andrew Gibbons, Churchfield, Tourmakeady, who celebrated her 18th birthday at the weekend. Sister of Cian, Saoirse is grand-daughter of Ann Gibbons, Gortmore, and Kathleen and Paddy Gibbons, Taunagh, Tourmakeady.

HALL DRAW The latest winners of the Tourmakeady Hall bonus number draw on September 27 were Anna and Michael Staunton and also Bernie Dermody. Both families receive €100 each for having number 19.

The next draw is on Saturday at 8 p.m.

TOURMAKEADY GATHERING  Calling all Tourmakeady folk living in Chicago to a Tourmakeady gathering on Friday, October 31, at Gaelic Park. On stage direct from Connamara are the Cillian Band, and there will be lots of raffles and surprises go leoir.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY Tourmakeady-Partry swimming club are holding a big fundraising night at Máire Luke’s, Tourmakeady, on Friday November 14. Music is by the brilliant Conor Duffy.

There will be lots of great prizes in the raffle, include a signed Mayo jersey, a seven-inch tablet, and lots of vouchers.

The Bun Club will be hosting a Halloween Disco for all the young people in the area it will be in Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh Friday 31st October from 5.30pm – 7.00pm   Children age up to 7 years and should be accompanied by a parent   Dress up and come along on  this Halloween night.  There will be light refreshments.
