What can you do to help?
An independent television production company based in Dublin will be working on a major new 6 part series for RTE 1 that hopes to start a revolution in the Irish language scene. By the end of the series it is hoped that 100,000 people who speak little or no Irish at present, will commit to using whatever Irish they have in some small way again. That is the grand ambition of the project. The series aims to be motivational, and inspirational. It seeks to rekindle a sense of pride in the language. The series will challenge the public asking what will you do for your language? So how can you help? The TV company is currently in the pre-production stages of the campaign. They hope that you can assist them in setting up a national network of willing facilitators. They are seeking Irish speakers to contact them. The facilitators must be willing to help organise both regular and one-off eye-catching Irish language events in this area. They will be looking for events that are new, innovative, fun and very importantly, attract a large number of people. If you are interested please contact Róisín Nic Dhomhnaill at Independent Pictures, Tel: +353 (0)1 7088 146 Please visit www.tourmakeady.com for full text of this notice.

The late Michael T. Lally
On Sunday, January 15, the death took place suddenly and peacefully of Michael T. Lally in Chicago. Son of the late Johnny and Mame Lally, Tawnagh, Srah, Tourmakeady.
Michael T. emigrated to England in 1966 with three of his friends, all of whom played in the newly-formed Tourmakeady GAA team, but similar to the present day, lack of employment forced them to emigrate.
Four years later Michael T. took the long trip to Chicago to join family members and friends and there he stayed until his final trip home on Friday, January 19.
He never lost touch with his homeland and he loved to hear the happenings of Tourmakeady and Mayo, be it farming, football or community affairs. He was a great family, and although he never married, he adopted all his nieces and nephews as his own. He had many friends and this was evident at the huge crowds that attended his wakes and funeral Masses on both sides of the Atlantic.
On Friday last GAA players assembled, from 1965 to the present team, to form a guard of honour as Michael T. Lally’s casket was taken to St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady. Burial took place on Saturday following concelebrated Mass by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., Ballyvoey, assisted by Fr. Desmond Grogan. Readings were given by Siohban and Micheal Lally, niece and nephew of Michael T. Hymns were played and sung by the Morrin and Byrne families. An emotional reflection on his life was given by Julie Lally, sister-in-law. She paid tribute, to Gabriel Hosty, formerly of Ballindine, Claremorris, a good friend of Michael T’s, who travelled home with the remains.
Michael T departed this life with one of his two wished adhered to, to rest finally in his beloved Tourmakeady and his other long-time wish was not to be – to see Mayo win the Sam Maguire.
He is survived by his sister Bridie and brothers Frank, (both Tawnagh, Srah, Tourmakeady,) Martin, Sean and Joe, all Chicago, his aunt Bridie Lally, Derra, Srah, sisters-in-law Julie Lally, Tawnagh, and Connie, Cathy and Julie Lally, all Chicago, also, nieces, nephews and a large circle of cousins as well as neighbours and friends.May his soul rest in peace.
