Mayo Litter Action League Tourmakeady is now part of the 2013 Mayo Litter Action League. It is a competition open to Community Groups in all towns and villages in County Mayo. It is run on a league basis i.e. each of the participating towns and villages compete against all other towns and villages in its group on successive months. One of the measures in the County’s Litter Management Plan is Community and Voluntary Group co-operation. Keep Tourmakeady litter free and let us all take a pride in our lovely village and keep it clean and tidy. CONGRATULATIONS to Louise Staunton, daughter of Pauline and Joe Stanton, Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady, who celebrated her 21st birthday with a function for family and friends at the Lough Mask Inn, Tourmakeady. Louise is sister of Alan, Pat, James, Paul, Stephen, Deirdre, Martina, Sandra and Nicola.

The Western Alzheimer’s tea day in Tourmakeady takes place on Saturday next, April 27, from 5 p.m. ‘til late in the Néad An Dréoilin home of Séan and Eileen Barker, Gortfree. All possible support is asked for this worthy cause.
Paddy’s open

Girls’ football
Tourmakeady ladies football club are now recruiting Under 10 and 8 girls. All girls aged between six and eight are welcome. Registration is €20 each. Fundraiser
The parents’ council of Colaiste Muire, Tourmakeady, are organising a fundraising night with Conor Duffy and friends on Friday, April 26, at Máire Luke’s. All proceeds go towards funds for the college. Support and donations of spot prizes would be greatly appreciated. For further information, contact Jackie at (087) 2126777. Died in Chicago
The death has occurred Thomas Heneghan, Chicago, and formerly of Derrendafderg, Srah, Tourmakeady. Aged 90, he was husband of Hannah. He was brother of the late Paddy Heneghan, Derrendafderg, and Sean, England and Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady. He is also survived by his daughters, sisters and brothers. He was uncle of Michael John Heneghan, Derrendafderg. Thomas was laid to rest in Chicago on Wednesday, April 10. May he rest in peace.
Running in Manchester
The countdown is on to the 2013 Greater Manchester Marathon on Sunday, April 28. Two young Partry men will take part in the 26.2-mile run, with proceeds going to cancer care. Peter Gibbons, Kilfaul, and John R. Kennedy, Newtown, will carry the Partry flag in the marathon. Sponsorship cards can be signed at The Village Inn and Ward’s, Partry, and also in Corrigan’s Store, Ballintubber. All possible support is asked for the two boys in their great efforts. Anyone wishing to organise an event would be appreciated. Every little helps.
The late Tommy Lally
It is with deep regret that we record the death of Tommy Lally, Derryveeney, Tourmakeady, in his 100th year at his residence on Sunday, April 14. Tommy was a very popular man in Tourmakeady and the surrounding areas, and well-known for his farming involvement. He was a hard working farmer and a great neighbour and could converse on any aspect of life. He had great time for his family and grandchildren.
Removal took place to St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady, after which Tommy was laid to rest. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., Ballyovey, assisted by Fr. Padraig Lally, Kildare. Hymns and music were by the Staunton family.
Tommy is survived by his wife Mae, son Tomas, and daughters Teresa, Marie, Sarah, Nuala and Rita. He was predeceased by his son Michael, the well-known actor. Tommy is also survived by his sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law Bridgie Lally, Derra, Srah, and grandchildren. He was grandfather of Adrian, Kevin and Brian Dolan, Tourmakeady. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Partry bonus number
The winners in the Partry residence bonus number draw on April 13 were Michael Harte, Kilkerran, and Abbey Tyres, Ballinrobe. Both receive €100 for having number 44. The next draw is on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Died in England
The death has occurred in England of Julia Heneghan, formerly of Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady. Julia was sister of the late Michael Heneghan (Andy), and also Eileen Casey, Catherine McGing and Peter Heneghan, all Chicago. Julia will be laid to rest in London. May her soul rest in peace.
Pilgrimage
The Ballyovey parish pilgrimage to Knock (Partry, Tourmakeady and Bunan) is on Sunday, May 5. The coach will leave Tourmakeady (O’Tooles) at 12.15 p.m. and Partry (community centre) at 12.30 p.m. The cost is €6.
Booking is essential, so please leave your name and payment to anyone of the members of the pastoral council or at the sacristy no later than Sunday, April 28.
The parish will be joining with parishes from all over the Tuam Archdiocese, led by Archbishop Michael Neary. All are welcome.
First Communion
Sunday, May 12, is first Communion day in Partry Church at 10 a.m. and Tourmakeady Church at 11.30 a.m. Pupils from Partry, Killeteeaun and Tuar Mhic Édaigh will receive their first Communion in ceremonies performed by Fr. John Kenny, P.P.

Killitiane death
The death has taken place of Mrs. Bridgie O’Neill, Killitiane, Tourmakeady. Her remains were removed from Burke’s Funeral Home, Clonbur, to Finney Church. She was laid to rest in Churchfield Cemetery, Tourmakeady, following requiem Mass. She is survived by her daughters Maureen and Eileen, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. Bridgie was sister of Eileen O'Malley, Drimcoggy, Srah, Tourmakeady. May her soul rest in peace.
Boxing title win
Congratulations to Frank Carr, son of Breege and Frank, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady, on winning the national boxing title in the Boys 4, 86kg for the second time. Frank won his all-Ireland in the National Stadium on a winning scoreline of 13-6. The Carr family would like to thank everyone who sponsored Frank on his journey to glory. He boxed out of the St. Anne’s club in Westport. Well done to all concerned.

Mulroe-Cregg marriage
St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady, was the pleasant setting on Saturday, March 23, for the joining in holy matrimony of Miss Noreen Mulroe, daughter of Ann and Paddy Mulroe, Letternineen, Tourmakeady, with Mr. David Cregg, son of Nuala and Joe Cregg, Lexlip, Co. Kildare.
The ceremony was performed by Fr. John Kenny, assisted by Fr. Conal Eustace, Ballinrobe.
The bridesmaids were Patricia Loye, Annette Moynihan and Lisa Dilliane. The bestman was Mark Lee and the groomsmen were John Flynn and Martin Cregg. The flowergirl was Ciara Lee and the pageboy was Patrick Loye.
The ushers were Arron Lee and Oisin McGuigan. The readings were given by Michael McGuigan and Patricia McDonagh. Music was by Sinead Nic Gabhann.
Afterwards, a reception was enjoyed in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport. The Leixlip and Tourmakeady communities unite in wishing Noreen and David many happy years of wedded bliss together in Churchfield Upper, Tourmakeady.
Card winners
A very enjoyable 25 card game held on Good Friday night in Tourmakeady Hall. The winners were: first, Peter Lydon and Tommy Egan, second, Micheál Joyce and David Lydon, third, Tommy Heneghan and Sean Barker, and fourth, Seamus Walsh and Seamus Mulroe. The raffle winners were David Lydon, Tommy Heneghan, Micheál Joyce and Martin Heneghan.

Mike, who is a regular member of the Tourmakeady senior football team, is brother of Sheila, Orla and Aoife. He is grandson of Mary Gibbons, Waterfall Cottage, Tourmakeady.

The death has occurred of Mrs. Katie Heneghan, Ballinern, Partry, formerly Katie Hayes , Ballintubber. She was laid to rest following funeral Mass in Partry. She is survived by her four daughters and three sons and extended family.

Mayo Litter Action League Tourmakeady has joined the 2013 Mayo Litter Action League. It is a competition open to Community Groups in all towns and villages in County Mayo. The competition has just commenced and will run until October 2013. It is run on a league basis i.e. each of the participating towns and villages compete against all other towns and villages in its group on successive months. The control and prevention of litter pollution in County Mayo is an ongoing challenge. One of the measures in the County’s Litter Management Plan is Community and Voluntary Group co-operation. Please beware aware of litter pollution and help us to keep Tourmakeady litter free. If you would like to help and to get involved with this initiative please call us 094 95 44295.

Saoirse Nic Giobúin is organising a walk in aid of Pieta House West, suicide and self-harm centre. The 5k walk will take place on Saturday morning, April 20. Registration will take place at Tourmakeady Hall at 4.30 a.m. Entry is adults €10, students and OAPs €5. The wedding took place on March 16 of Aisling Morrison, daughter of Mary and Ned Morrison, Ballingarry, Co. Limerick, to Karl Conroy, son of Mary and Liam Conroy, Ballybannon, Tourmakeady, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballingarry.
Bridesmaids were Triona Huggard, Hazel Frank, Jennifer Gilbert and Gemma Brophy. The best man was Aidan Morrison and groomsmen were Aaron Conroy, Damian Conroy and Ruairi Conroy. Flower girls were Juleann Aherne, Caoilainn Frank, Amy Morrison, Chloe Conroy and Katie Morrison. Page boys were Jack McGeough, Ben Conroy, Paddy McGeough, Cian Frank.
Readings were given by John Paul Morrison, Fiona McGeough and Jackie O’Loughlin. Music was provided by Sinead O’Brien and Sinead Ryan. We wish the happy couple many years of health and happiness.

Sympathy
We extend our sympathy to Mrs. Mary Cox, Tourmakeady, on the death, in Middlesex, England, of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Bridie Feehan, formerly Coonan, Killawalla. She was predeceased by her husband Martin in April, 2012. Burial takes place in England today. May she rest in peace.
Death
The death has taken place in Crossmolina of Martin Daly, father of Garda Jim Daly, Partry. Burial took place on Friday in Crossmolina. Sympathy goes out to all the Daly family.
Threat to Leader and local development
Public meetings about the threat to Leader and local development in south and west Mayo will take place on Monday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, and on Monday, April 15, also at 8 p.m., in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport.
The government plans to remove authority, responsibility and funding from South West Mayo Development Company and all similar local development companies in Ireland. The programmes delivered by South West Mayo Development Company have successfully benefited rural communities for the last 20 years. These meetings are in response to the high level of local concern about the proposals.

We extend our sympathy to Mrs. Mary Cox, Tourmakeady, on the death, in Middlesex, England, of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Bridie Feehan, formerly Coonan, Killawalla. She was predeceased by her husband Martin in April, 2012. Burial takes place in England today. May she rest in peace.
Death
The death has taken place in Crossmolina of Martin Daly, father of Garda Jim Daly, Partry. Burial took place on Friday in Crossmolina. Sympathy goes out to all the Daly family.
Threat to Leader and local development
Public meetings about the threat to Leader and local development in south and west Mayo will take place on Monday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, and on Monday, April 15, also at 8 p.m., in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport.
The government plans to remove authority, responsibility and funding from South West Mayo Development Company and all similar local development companies in Ireland. The programmes delivered by South West Mayo Development Company have successfully benefited rural communities for the last 20 years. These meetings are in response to the high level of local concern about the proposals.
