Old and used mobile phones required
A REQUEST goes out to everyone in the community to donate old and used mobile phones. They can be dropped off at Tourmakeady post office or Máire Lukes as soon as possible.
Thanks to the great effort of Andrew Gibbons, of Fonfit, a brand new defibrillator will be installed at O’Toole’s, shortly.
It is now hoped to collect enough old and used mobile phones for a second defibrillator, which will be installed in Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant and the community would be well served with one at Coláiste Muire, Tourmakeady GAA ground, O’Tooles and hopefully Máire Lukes.
Twelve people are also invited to join up for a first-aid course in order to obtain a new defibrillator. Thank you to everyone concerned.
General meeting at the Partry community centre
ALL farmers are invited to attend a general meeting at the Partry community centre, on Friday, January 22, at 8 p.m.
The meeting is being held to discuss the possibility of reducing and controlling deer in the area.
Farmers and interested members of Partry, Ballinrobe and Tourmakeady communities are asked to attend this meeting.
Other issues to be addressed include usage of the Tourmakeady/Partry road and burial plots in Tourmakeady cemetery amongst others.

THERE was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA weekly lotto held at the Lough Mask Inn, on Saturday, January 16. The numbers chosen were 7, 24, 26 and 27. The consolation winners were Padraig Lydon, Fairgreen View; Michael Derrig, Castlebar; Michael Kelly, Treenlair; Andy Gibbons, Goirtin A Colle and Padraig O’hEanachain, Goirtin Mór. The next draw will be on Saturday night, with €6,300 in the jackpot. Tickets cost €2 and are on sale throughout the parish.
Recipe to beat the recession
A RECIPE to beat the recession will be held at Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, on Wednesday, January 27 and every Wednesday thereafter. A series of social dancing classes will commence at 8.30 p.m. and it promises to be a night of fun. There will be a well-known tutor in attendance. Further details are available from Barbara, at (094) 9544080.
The weekly card games take place on Thursday nights, at 9 p.m. and the restaurant is open every Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. for that special Sunday lunch.

THE latest winners of the Partry bonus number game in conjunction with the Partry residents association are Kathleen and Vincent Horan, Ballygarry and also Margaret and Sean Gibbons, Ballinern. Both couples receive €100 each for having number 35. The next draw is on Saturday, at 8 p.m.
Haiti earthquake disaster collection
A GENERAL collection for the Haiti earthquake disaster will be taken up at all Masses in Tourmakeady and the Bunaún next weekend, January 23 and 24. All envelopes should be given in at the church basket collection.
CD launch
A HUGE crowd attended the launch of a special CD at the Village Inn, Partry, on Saturday last. It was recorded by Tom Walsh and entitled Some Old Favourites, with all proceeds going to Down Syndrome Ireland.
A native of Cornamona, Co. Galway and husband of May Gibbons, Gallagh, Partry, Tom is no stranger to the Partry area. He hopes the CD will sell well for this worthy cause.
May, who is sister of Dick, Peter and Michael Gibbons, will have the CD on sale in the Village Inn, Partry; Corrigans store, Ballintubber or from tomwalsh.info@googlemail.com.
Bereavement
THE death has taken place suddenly of Michael Coen, Glengosslin, Tourmakeady. Burial took place on Monday, January 18, in Churchfield cemetery. May his soul rest in peace.

Successful awards night at Partry Athletic Club
CONGRATULATIONS to Partry Athletic Club, on a great awards night held at their annual social in The Lough Inn, Partry, last week.
Having secured four promotions in recent years, the club ended up in fifth place in the Mayo premier division, 2009.
This is a great achievement for a young club and well done
Congratulations to Ciaran Hennelly, who was awarded player of the year and Michael Lally, who was top scorer in 2009.
Another highlight of the club was the launch of the Underage structure, with teams in most Underage leagues.
Anyone wishing to join the soccer weekly lotto should contact Barry Bourke, Kenneth O’Malley or Vincent Horan.

New baby girl
CONGRATULATIONS to Carina and Marcus Coyne, Shanafarhan, Finney, on the birth of their baby daughter Sinead. She is a little sister for Molly and granddaughter for the Coyne and Conway households.
Partry bonus number draw winners
THE most recent winners of the Partry bonus number game draw are Pat Durcan, The Village Inn and Michael Harte, Killkerran. Both receive €100 each for having number 44. There will be more winners on Saturday, January 16, at 8 p.m.
Old and used mobile phones required
A REQUEST goes out to everyone in the community to donate old and used mobile phones. They can be dropped off at Tourmakeady post office or Máire Lukes as soon as possible.
Thanks to the great effort of Andrew Gibbons, of Fonfit, a brand new defibrillator will be installed at O’Toole’s, shortly.
It is now hoped to collect enough old and used mobile phones for a second defibrillator, which will be installed in Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant and the community would be well served with one at Colaiste Muire, Tourmakeady GAA ground, O’Tooles and hopefully Máire Lukes.
Twelve people are also invited to join up for a first-aid course in order to obtain a new defibrillator. Thank you to everyone concerned.

GAA lotto winners
THERE were no outright winners of the Tourmakeady GAA local lotto draw, held on December 26, at O’Toole’s.
The numbers chosen were 8, 17, 31 and 32. Consolation prizes went to Cathy O’Toole, Cappaduff; Mary Prendergast, Gortmor; Jackie O’Brien, Shanvallyard; John Marrey, Cappencreha and Jimmie Gibbons, Treenlaur.
The next draw is on Saturday and the jackpot is over €6,000. Tickets cost €2 each or three for €5. All silver circle tickets are available, with 52 weeks, for €100.

Bereavements
THE death has occurred of Mrs. Eileen Whelan, Barra Na hAbhna, Tourmakeady, at the Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, on Christmas day, December 25, 2009.
Born Eileen Joyce, in Coill Mór, Finney, over 70 years ago, the youngest of 11 children, she married Tom Whelan, of Barra Na hAbhna and they were blessed with five children, whom Eileen loved and cherished.
Eileen also had a special welcome for her two grandchildren, Oisin and Meabh and her daughters-in-law, to her home. She received special care in her own home from her family.
Her remains were removed from the funeral home in Tourmakeady, to St. Mary’s church. Burial took place on Monday, in Churchfield cemetery, after 12 noon Mass, in Tourmakeady, celebrated by Fr. Padraig Standún cc Tourmakeady.
Eileen is survived by her husband Tom, daughters Rita and Mary, sons Tom, Michael and Padraig, grandchildren, Oisin and Meabh, daughters-in-law Eileen and Sarah Whelan. Also brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, neighbours and relations. May her soul rest with the Lord. Mass is in Tourmakeady church, on Thursday, January 7, at 7.30 p.m.
Also the death has taken place in Ballyvourney, Co. Cork, of John De Burca, father of Liam De Burca, Cólaisti Muire and Tawnagh, Tourmakeady. He was laid to rest in Ballyvourney, after 2 p.m. Mass, on Saturday, January 2.
John is survived by his wife Peig and their sons. He was also father-in-law to Siobhán De Burca and grandfather to Jack De Burca, all of Tawnagh, Srah. May his soul rest in peace.
Also the death has taken place at her residence of Mrs. Nora Maguire, Srah, Tourmakeady, in her 98th year.
Born Nora Heneghan, Derrendafderg, Srah, she was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1991.
Ever since, Nora was cared for in the comfort of her home by her nephew Michael and his wife Veronica and family.
Removal took place on Thursday, December 31, from her home, to St. Mary’s church, Tourmakeady.
Burial took place on Friday, January 1, in the family plot, after 12 noon Mass, celebrated by Fr. Padraig Standún cc Tourmakeady.
Nora is survived by her niece Sarah McGing, nephews Michael and John Heneghan and extended family. May her soul rest in peace.
Also the death has taken place on Monday, December 28, of Mr. Séan Gibbons, Goirtin A Colle, Tourmakeady, at the Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, in his 67th year, after a short illness.
He was known locally as the tailor Gibbons, as his father was a tailor, in his native Ballintubber.
Sean was well-known for his many years of hard work in Ireland and England. He loved the land reclaimed with his JCB; his card playing and country music.
On Wednesday, December 30, his remains were removed to St. Mary’s church, Tourmakeady, for 12 noon Mass, celebrated by Fr. Padraig Standún cc Tourmakeady, assisted by Fr. Farragher. Readings, reflections and music were given by family members and friends.
Burial took place in Churchfield cemetery. Séan is survived by seven in family, his sisters Una, Nancy and Margaret. He was predeceased by his brother Paddy, Ballintubber. Sympathy is extended to all his grandchildren and extended family. May his soul rest in peace.
Also the death has occurred of Mrs. Ann Coleman, born Ann Gibbons, in 1924, in Gortnacullin, Tourmakeady.
She was one of eight children, leaving school at the age of 12, to care for the other members of her family when her mother took seriously ill.
Ann married Jim Coleman in 1954 and they were blessed with four children.
Burial took place on Saturday, January 2, following 12 noon Mass, in Carnacon church, celebrated by Fr. Frank Fahy, assisted by Fr. Jack Garvey. May her soul rest in peace.
