Litter Action League 2014 We have received the results for the month of July for the Litter Action League. In total there was 33 pieces of litter found on the morning of inspection, thankfully this is an improvement on last months report, litter consisted of sweet wrappers, bottles, caps and plastic wrappers. The following are the areas in question - from the speed limit at Coláiste Muire to the Health Centre, from O’Toole's to the speed limit on the Gortfree Rd and from Tourmakeady Woods to the Cemetery.
We are asking for your help once again to keep the area free from litter, and keep Tourmakeady tidy. Go raibh maith agaibh.

GAA weekly lotto There was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA weekly lotto in the draw held at The Village Inn, Partry, on August 23 last. The numbers chosen were 3, 5, 14 and 30. Consolation winners: Callum Donoghue, Mike and Cathy Walsh, Treenlar, Seamus Gibbons, Trianlar, Mary Casey, Portroyal, and Ann Pollard, Tipperary. The jackpot now stands at €10,600 will be drawn in Paddy’s, Tourmakeady, on Saturday next, September 6, with Team K on lotto duty.
Coffee / tea evening The annual coffee/tea evening for Mayo Roscommon Hospice will be held at Tourmakeady Hall on Friday next September 5 between 7 and 9.30 p.m. It is always a nice sociable meeting point. All possible support is asked for this worthy cause. Donations can be given to Noreen Maloney, Bride Heneghan or Michael J. Casey.
The Partry afterschool committee wish to thank everyone who contributed to the very successful cake sale after last Sunday’s Mass. For those who baked and those who came and bought the produce, we say a sincere thank you for your kind and generous support. Without your generous support it would be very difficult to raise the necessary funds to start off this service.

The lovely ceremony, which took place in Monaghan, was performed by Fr. Desmond Grogan and Fr. John Kenny. Ciarra is a granddaughter of Peggy and John Byrne, Portroyal, Partry. Good luck and long life to Mr. and Mrs. Russell.
Sympathy The death has taken place in Chicago of Jim Sheehy, a native of Kerry and husband of Kathleen Sheehy (nee Naughton), Ballybannon, Tourmakeady. He was brother-in-law of Margaret Fallon, Ballybannon. May he rest in peace.
Fishing Competition Partry Trout Anglers held their annual fishing competition on Sunday, August 17. The competition was held on Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Conditions were ideal. The results were as follows: 1st prize: Peter Byrne and John Moroney with five fish for 10 lbs; 2nd prize: Owen McGreal and David Duffy with four fish for 8.19 lbs; 3rd prize: Seamus O’Loughlin and Brian McInerny with fuur fish for 5.965 lbs; heaviest fish: Eamonn Kennedy and Philip Kavanagh, 3.74 lbs.
In total, 168 anglers took part and Lough Carra fished very well as the first three places were all from Carra, from where 79 fish were caught overall.
The committee would like to sincerely thank the Ward family who hosted the competition, Jackie Mahon who sponsored the food, all the sponsors of the prizes, the ladies who helped with the signing in the morning and distribution of the food in the evening, the gardaí for their presence in the morning, Joe Grimes, and the community council for the loan of chairs and tables.
All monies collected by this competition will go to stream and river enhancement in the Carra-Mask catchment area.

Funday Partry Heritage and Fun Day will take place on Sunday next, August 31, on the grounds of Partry Athletic F.C., beside St. Mary’s Church.
Gates open at 1 p.m. Admission is €10 per car, adults €5, with children free. A great day is assured, with arts and crafts demonstrations, a vintage display, music and dancing, pony and trap rides, face painting and bouncing castles. Congratulations Saturday, August 16, at St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady, was the day, date and setting for the joining in holy matrimony and Nuptial Blessing of Miss Leona Fallon, daughter of Brian and Mary Fallon, Churchfield, Tourmakeady, and Mr. Matthew Foot, son of Stephen and Olga Foot, Cornwall, England.
The lovely ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Desmond Grogan, assisted by Fr. John Kenny, P.P.
Readings were given by Brian Fallon, brother of the bride, and Ann Coleman aunt of the bride. The Communion Reflection was given by James Foot with other readings by Sophie Hodge, Diane Carmody, Edward Foot, Donie Coleman and Mikey Shoevlin.
Music and song were presented by Mairead Hegarty, John Hegarty and Claire O’Grady.
The bride was handed over in marriage by her dad, Brian Fallon, attended as maid of honour by Jennifer Coleman, and the bridesmaids were Lisa Shoevlin and Jodie Shoevlin.
The best man was Chris Appleby and the groomsmen were James Foot and Edward Foot. The ushers were Brian Fallon and Alex Slaywe.
The flower girls were Harriet Pike and Joanna Pike and the page boys were twins Jack Foot and Sam Foot.
The reception was held at the Westport Woods Hotel and Mr. and Mrs. Foot are honeymooning in Sri-Lanka. Best wishes and long life to Leona and Matt.
Book Launch Follow the crowds to Partry Community Centre on Friday night next, August 29, for the book launch of ‘Partry People’ by Peter McLoughlin. Tea and refreshments will be served and proceedings will start at 7.30 p.m.

Silver Anniversary Sincere thanks to those who supported the silver anniversary function of Willie and Sheila Barker who so willing gave all donations/gifts to the redecorating of Tourmakeady Church.
It was a great gesture and really appreciated. The great total has covered 25 per cent of the costs to date.

The winners of the raffle on the night were, €100 voucher, Colin Cannon, Castlebar; €30, Tom Barker, Meath; with third prize going to Dean Glendon, Gortmor.
Senior Footballers Tourmakeady senior footballers defeated Aghamore team in the Mayo senior league. The game finished Tourmakeady 1-13, Aghamore 0-10. Tourmakeady have now moved mid-table in Division 1B of the Mayo league.

The lovely ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Desmond Grogan, assisted by Fr. John Kenny, P.P.
Readings were given by Brian Fallon, brother of the bride, and Ann Coleman aunt of the bride. The Communion Reflection was given by James Foot with other readings by Sophie Hodge, Diane Carmody, Edward Foot, Donie Coleman and Mikey Shoevlin.
Music and song were presented by Mairead Hegarty, John Hegarty and Claire O’Grady.
The bride was handed over in marriage by her dad, Brian Fallon, attended as maid of honour by Jennifer Coleman, and the bridesmaids were Lisa Shoevlin and Jodie Shoevlin.
The best man was Chris Appleby and the groomsmen were James Foot and Edward Foot. The ushers were Brian Fallon and Alex Slaywe.
The flower girls were Harriet Pike and Joanna Pike and the page boys were twins Jack Foot and Sam Foot.
The reception was held at the Westport Woods Hotel and Mr. and Mrs. Foot are honeymooning in Sri-Lanka. Best wishes and long life to Leona and Matt.
Book Launch Follow the crowds to Partry Community Centre on Friday night next, August 29, for the book launch of ‘Partry People’ by Peter McLoughlin. Tea and refreshments will be served and proceedings will start at 7.30 p.m.

Silver Anniversary Sincere thanks to those who supported the silver anniversary function of Willie and Sheila Barker who so willing gave all donations/gifts to the redecorating of Tourmakeady Church.
It was a great gesture and really appreciated. The great total has covered 25 per cent of the costs to date.

Senior Footballers Tourmakeady senior footballers defeated Aghamore team in the Mayo senior league. The game finished Tourmakeady 1-13, Aghamore 0-10. Tourmakeady have now moved mid-table in Division 1B of the Mayo league.

Gortfree Hero Large crowds assembled, fires blazed and huge excitement was recorded as the champion of Ireland arrived back in Tourmakeady having reclaimed the champion’s prize for the second time at the 2014 Horse Show in Dublin.
Gortfree Hero, Frank and his proud owner Sean Barker accompanied by his wife Eileen arrived home on Sunday evening to a wonderful reception.
Gortfree Hero is the 2014 Irish Draught stallion champion having won the title previously in 2010.
It is a great achievement for Frank and the Barker family to recapture the title.
Peter McLoughlin will launch his book, Partry People, on Friday, August 29, at 7.30 p.m. in Partry Community Centre. All are welcome. Admission is free.
On stage at Máire Luke’s Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, this Friday, August 22, are Bartley O’Donnell and Ceann Golan from Connemara. On Sunday, August 24, welcome the Mullen family from London, who have many All-Ireland titles in the tradition scale. All are welcome. Coming on Friday, August 29, from Chicago is Joe McShane.

Another important date for your diary in Tourmakeady. The 3rd Annual Tourmakeady 10K takes place on Saturday 2nd August, 2014. Start time 1pm. Suitable for runners, joggers and walkers. Route is a loop along the scenic shores of Lough Mask. Water stations along route and refreshments afterwards in the hall. Prizes for first, second and third in male and female categories. Registration is €20 and you can register online (runireland.com) or on the day from 10.30am. This year we also have a 1.5K fun run for children from 9 - 14 years. Register on the day from 10.30am. €5 per child or €10 for 2 or more children from the same family. All proceeds go to the Páirc Spraoi and community projects. Donations of refreshments for the event would be much appreciated!
Tourmakeady Agriculture Show The Tourmakeady Show Committee would like to thank all their sponsors for their continued support for this annual event. Thank you also the local community and all the many visitors who joined us today. Their were many people catching up with friends and family during the day which was lovely to see. The medical support, helpers on the day were brilliant. Thank you also to all the committee who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and well done to our Chairman!. Cemetery Mass - next weekend is cemetery weekend in the Ballovey Parish, which covers Tourmakeady. Partry Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Everyone is invited to share the weekend in the parish. It is always a lovely time and with the grounds in all cemeteries in great condition parishioners are asked to give a make over to the family plots.

A fun day in aid of Console will be held on August 9. Registration starts at 11 a.m. in Máire Luke’s. The options are a 10km or 20km walk or a 62km or 92km cycle. The adult fee is €20 or an €80 family fee.
Console is a national prevention and intervention suicide charity with centres in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Kerry, Athlone, Wexford, Mayo, Kildare and London, that offers counselling and support to families, children and work colleagues who have lost someone to suicide. A barbecue will follow.
After school care Partry After School Committee are looking at the possibility of setting up a breakfast and after school childcare service for children in the Partry and surrounding areas.
They hope this service will be started for the coming school year. If you think breakfast or after school childcare would be a help to you, please contact Karen at (086) 8180657.
To start with the committee have devised a questionnaire that will help identify the needs for after school childcare in the area.
Over the coming week the Partry After School Committee will be conducting a survey of homes in the local area. They would be grateful if you would complete the questionnaire when they call. If it doesn’t suit a member of the committee will return to collect the completed questionnaire. Your participation is voluntary and confidential.
Féile The Lough Mask Inn will host the annual Féile on Sunday, August 3. Proceedings kick-off at 8 p.m. with a barbecue followed by an open air concert with music by Phase. Tickets are on sale in the Lough Mask Inn, Village Inn and O’Toole’s. All proceeds go towards the development of facilities at Pairc Naomh Mhuire,

Congratulations St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady, was the perfect setting as the summer sun shone high in the sky on Saturday, July 19, for the joining in holy matrimony of Miss Kathleen Sheridan, daughter of Mary and the late Peter Sheridan, Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady, with Mr. Alaric Funk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Funk, Moura, Queensland, Australia.
The lovely ceremony was performed by Fr. John Kenny, P.P. Readings were given by Peter Joyce, nephew of the bride and Patricia Funk sister of the groom also Mikey Joyce, Peter Sheridan, Michael Sheridan and Stephanie Corcoran.
Communion reflection was given by Niamh Cunningham. Beautiful music was given with song by Shona and Sarah O’Malley.
The bride was handed over in marriage by her brother P.J. Sheridan. Chief bridesmaid was Eileen Joyce, sister of the bride and Davina Bourke, a friend as bridesmaid. Best man was Derek Nicholson, a friend of the groom and Pat Joyce, nephew of the bride as groomsman. The flower girl was Aisling Sheridan and page boy was Jack Sheridan niece and nephew of the bride.
Following the official duties of St. Mary’s a reception was held and enjoyed by all at the Plaza Hotel, Westport. Good luck to Kathleen and Alaric for a long and happy life.

Céilí Mór. The Annual Summer Céilí Mór will be held in Tourmakeady Hall on Saturday 2nd August – doors open 9.00pm dancing to Carousel until 1.00am. There will be refreshments and a raffle

Litter Action League 2014 We have received the results for the month of June for the Litter Action League. Unfortunately, we are disappointed again with the result we received. In total there was 82 pieces of litter found on the day of inspection, litter consisted of sweet wrappers, bottles, tissues, lollypop sticks and crisps bags. There was also 66 cigarette butts found at inspection. The following is the areas in question-from the speed limit at Coláiste Muire to the Health Centre, from O’Toole's to the speed limit on the Gortfree Rd and from Tourmakeady Woods to the Cemetery. We are asking for your help please to keep the area free from litter and keep Tourmakeady tidy. Thank you!

Another important date for your diary in Tourmakeady. The 3rd Annual Tourmakeady 10K takes place on Saturday 2nd August, 2014. Start time 1pm. Suitable for runners, joggers and walkers. Route is a loop along the scenic shores of Lough Mask. Water stations along route and refreshments afterwards in the hall. Prizes for first, second and third in male and female categories. Registration is €20 and you can register online (runireland.com) or on the day from 10.30am. This year we also have a 1.5K fun run for children from 9 - 14 years. Register on the day from 10.30am. €5 per child or €10 for 2 or more children from the same family. All proceeds go to the Páirc Spraoi and community projects. Donations of refreshments for the event would be much appreciated!
Tourmakeady Agriculture Show The Tourmakeady Show Committee would like to thank all their sponsors for their continued support for this annual event. Thank you also the local community and all the many visitors who joined us today. Their were many people catching up with friends and family during the day which was lovely to see. The medical support, helpers on the day were brilliant. Thank you also to all the committee who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and well done to our Chairman!. Ceol na Locha Music Festival will take place this year from Monday 11th August to 15th August 2014 in Tourmakeady. Cemetery Mass - next weekend is cemetery weekend in the Ballovey Parish, which covers Tourmakeady. Partry Mass will be celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., in Churchfield Cemetery, Tourmakeady, and Friday, August 1, at 6.30 p.m., in Ballyovey Cemetery, Partry, on Sunday, August 3, at 10 a.m. followed at Tourmakeady Church Cemetery at 11.30 a.m.
Everyone is invited to share the weekend in the parish. It is always a lovely time and with the grounds in all cemeteries in great condition parishioners are asked to give a make over to the family plots.
Sympathy Our sympathy is extended to Pat and Eileen Joyce (Sheridan) of Westport and Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady, on the death of Sheila Joyce, Pat’s mother, in Leenane, Co. Galway. Sheila was laid to rest on Tuesday, July 22, in Leenane Cemetery. May her soul rest in peace.
