Death in Galway
THE death took place in Galway, on Friday, February 4, of Mrs. Kathleen Burke, Derrypark, Kilitiane, in her early 70s, after a short illness.
A native of Garrisons, Co. Fermanagh, Kathleen emigrated to England to work in the early 1950s. On February 8, 1955, Kathleen married Stephen Burke, of Derrypark, in London. Some short years later they came back to Ireland and settled and were blessed with eight children.
They worked hard on their farm, raised their family and were great neighbours. They were always willing to help out and got the same in return.
Life was changed in 1996 when their daughter Eileen passed away, as did Stephen in 2006.
Kathleen continued her routine until her illness prior to Christmas 2010.
Huge crowds attended her final journey. On Monday, her remains were removed from Burke’s funeral parlour, Clonbur, to Finney church. Burial took place in Churchfield cemetery, Tourmakeady, following 12 noon Mass, which was celebrated by Kieran Burke. Kathleen is survived by sons John and Patrick, daughters Sheila, Ann, Lorraine, Irene and Josephine and also sons-in-law, sisters, brothers and grandchildren. May her soul rest with the Lord.

An
Important message from the Steering Committee of Tourmakeady Community
Futures.
Our facilitator Patricia Cox, who is employed by Mayo Community Forum on behalf of Tourmakeady, expressed her concerns about a few comments on surveys relating to confidentially.
A few people did not feel that their survey was confidential..Patricia’s work is to confidentially compile and analylise the results of the surveys and stakeholder interviews. We can confirm that all surveys were collected and handed over unopened to Patricia. All stakeholder interviews were confidential. We are not allowed to see the original comments. They are only available to the Coordinator of the Forum, Mary Wrafter and Patricia and they will be presented in a summary report to us. We want to assure everyone that nothing is traceable.
We are pleased that this was brought to our attention. It was necessary to give every village a number. This was to ensure that surveys were delivered to and collected from every area and that we had a real cross section of views from all the community and this we can confirm we have achieved. We can tell you that we had an 80% return of surveys from the community
Again we take this opportunity to acknowledge our thanks to everyone who filled in the survey. We look forward to seeing you all at the Open Day on April 10 where we can all see the results which will then be available for us as a community to prioritise and put into our Action Plan.
