She was Brid McNally raised in a family of 10 children. She worked hard all her life, mainly for the religious community.
She married Tom Prendergast, in 1957 and after some years they settled in lovely Churchfield. They were blessed with two sons Michael and Martin.
Brid loved her lifestyle, her garden, home, neighbours, family and daughters-in-law Caroline and Marcella and their children. She loved to visit and entertain.
Large crowds attended and paid respect to the Prendergast family. On Tuesday, June 7, her remains were removed from her residence to St. Mary’s church, Tourmakeady, for 11 a.m. Mass, celebrated by Fr. John Kenny P.P. assisted by Canon Desmond Grogan. Readings were given by Aisling Prendergast, Brid’s granddaughter and Michael, her son. Music and song were presented by her nephew. The Mass reflection was given by Martin Prendergast, Brid’s son.
Burial took place in the family plot at Churchfield cemetery. Brid is survived by her sons Michael and Martin, daughters-in-law Marcella and Caroline; brother Michael, Australia; sisters Peggy, Eileen, Sarah, Annie and Ita; brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins and nephews. May her soul rest in peace.

Death in the U.S.A.
ON Tuesday, June 7, a shadow of sadness and disbelief came over Tourmakeady and Chicago, U.S.A. as news spread of the death of Maria Heneghan-Riley, daughter of Kathleen and the late Peter Heneghan, Gortnacullin, Srah, Tourmakeady, in her early 60s, following an illness.
She emigrated to Chicago in the mid-70s, having worked in Gaeltarra Knitwear, Tourmakeady, for the previous 14 years. Her heart and soul were in Ireland and she kept in touch daily with family and friends. She loved music of all types including country and her own voice has left many memories at home and away. She visited her mother in Tourmakeady, each June and her final trip took place on June 11, this year.
Hundreds of mourners paid their respects in both Chicago and Tourmakeady and Take Me Home to Mayo, one of Marie’s favourites was played, on Friday.
On Saturday, Marie’s remains reposed at St. Mary’s funeral home, with removal to the church, for 8 p.m. Mass. Huge crowds assembled on Sunday, for the 11.30 a.m. Mass, celebrated by Fr. John Kenny P.P. Readings were given by her niece and brother-in-law. Reflection and poem, written by Marie, were read by her brother Brendan. Hymns consisted of Our Lady of Knock and Lately Returned from Exile, by her sister Trish, brother Brendan and nephew Mark.
Marie is survived by her mother Kathleen, daughters Lauren and Kirssan, sisters Trish Gibbons and Irene Conway, brothers Vincent, Peader, Kevin, Brendan and Martin. Also brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and four close friends, Brittany, Blanche Doyle, Bernie Brohphy and Bernie Heveran and many more friends on both sides of the Atlantic. Her wish was to rest finally in her beloved Tourmakeady. May she rest peacefully in St. Mary’s cemetery, Tourmakeady.
