PLEASE make sure that children are visible at night. Reports have been received of young children walking in the village without any reflective clothing. Drivers cannot see walkers at night in unlit areas.

A CITIZEN’S information officer will be in attendance in the hall, on April 21 2010 from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The officer has information on social welfare, health board payments, taxation, housing and single farm payments. The service is available in English and Irish.
21st birthday celebrations
CONGRATULATIONS to Jimmie and Martha Heneghan, daughter of Jimmie and Mary Sarah Heneghan, who celebrated her 21st birthday, with a function at Paddy’s bar and restaurant, Tourmakeady, on Saturday, March 20.
A nurse by profession, Martha a great footballer from Tourmakeady, is sister of Soracha, Damien, Brian, Michéal and Mark. She is also granddaughter of Maureen Heneghan, Tawnagh, Srah, Tourmakeady and Martin and Maureen McAndrew, Pullathomas, Ballina.

THE clocks go forward on Saturday, March 27, for summer time.
GAA local lotto results
THERE was no outright winner of the local lotto. The numbers drawn were 1, 7, 31 and 32. The consolation winners were David Hughes, Carnacon; John Ronan, Churchfield; Damien Heneghan, Goirtin a Colle and Tracey Shannon, Cappaduff. Tickets at €2 or €5 for three tickets are on sale throughout the parish. Also the silver circle tickets are available from Mary Prendergast.
Parade disappointment
THERE was huge disappointment at the non-staging of the parade this year. This was due to circumstances outside of the control of the committee. This popular parade will be staged again in 2011.
Defeat in Michael Walsh league
TOURMAKEADY senior footballers were defeated by Kilmaine in the Michael Walsh league on Saturday, in Kilmaine. The final score was Kilmaine 0-12 to Tourmakeady 0-9.
Wedding bells
BALLINTUBBER Abbey was the setting on March 20, for the wedding of Ms. Sinead Cox, daughter of Mary Jo and Michael Cox, Tourmakeady, to Mr. Barry Heffernan, son of Eileen and Eamonn Heffernan, Limerick.
The ceremony was performed by Fr. Padraig Standún cc, Tourmakeady. Chief bridesmaid was Aoife Cox. Bridesmaids were Sharon Lavin and Nicola Heveran. Best man was Colm Heffernan. Groomsmen was Kevin Heffernan and Dermot Keane. Music was presented by the Corrib string quartet.
Following the official duties at the Abbey, a reception was held and enjoyed at The Castlecourt Hotel, Westport. The communities in Mayo and Limerick unite in wishing Sinead and Barry many long years of happiness together

Irish youth rugby team selection
WELL done to Joe Keane, son of Gail and Peter Keane, Carheen, Tourmakeady, on being selected to the Irish youth rugby team, to play in Treviso, as part of the FIRA European rugby championship. The event will take place over the Easter period, with the final on Easter Sunday. Joe is a prominent member of Tourmakeady Underage GAA teams and a past pupil of Treenlair national school and Colaiste Muire, Tuar Mhic Eadaigh.
Phase band return
MAKING a welcome return to Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, on Friday night, March 26, are The Phase Band. A big crowd is expected. There is traditional music on Sunday and the restaurant is open between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Bookings are at (094) 9544080.

Senior infants handwriting success
CONGRATULATIONS to Leah Lydon, daughter of Nina and John Lydon, Carheen, Tourmakeady and a pupil of Tourmakeady national school, who came second out of 300 entrants in the Mayo I.N.T.O. senior infants handwriting competition held recently.
It is a wonderful achievement by Leah, who is granddaughter to Nora and Michael Lydon, Cappenachrea and to Kathleen and Paddy Gibbons, Tawnagh, Srah, Claremorris.

Bereavement
SYMPATHY is extended to Angela Lally, Ballinern, Partry, on the death of her sister Mary Tang, in England, sister-in-law of Tommie.
Also to Michael Morahan, Derrassa, Srah, on the death in Castlebar, of his sister Mrs. Celia Staunton, in her early 90s. Burial took place on Wednesday, March 10, after 11 a.m. Mass, in Castlebar.
Celia is survived by her sons Michael and Sean, her brother Michael, sister-in-law, Sarah Morahan, aunt of Cait Gibbons, Tawnagh, Larry Lally, Srah, Barbara Conlon, Tom and Sean Morahan, Derassa.
Also the death has taken place in Chicago, USA, of Eddie Mannix, husband of Nancy Heneghan, formerly Derassa, Srah. In his 70th year and a native of Castleisland, Co. Kerry. He is survived by his widow Nancy, sons Eddie and Patrick, daughter Noreen and grandchildren, brothers, sisters and extended family.
Eddie will be laid to rest on Tuesday, March 16, after 11.30 a.m. Mass in Chicago.
Charity ride
NORTH Galway hunt charity ride and hack in aid of the Irish Red Cross, Clonbur branch; ambulance services and the Corrib/Mask search and rescue boat, based at Tourmakeady, will take place on Sunday, March 21.
It will begin at Cong and registration is at 12 noon, in Lydons Bar. The minimum contribution is €50 per horse. There is entertainment and an auction on the night, at 9 p.m. in Lydons. Sponsorship cards are available from (087) 9638546 or (087) 2357708.

A life lived in hope
SR. Hilary Lyons will speak in Partry community centre, on Thursday, March 18, at 8 p.m. on the theme of a life lived in hope. It is open to everyone and it is part of the cluster of Ballinrobe, Kilmaine, Roundfort, Partry and Tourmakeady.

CONGRATULATIONS to Conor Duffy, Derrendafderg, Srah, on his brilliant CD Still Missing Someone. He had success with his Christmas CD and his second one is selling fast. Conor is past pupil of Colaisti Muire, Tourmakeady. He is a popular figure in the Mayo singers circuit and it is an act not to be missed.

THE death has taken place suddenly at his residence of Mr. Thomas Francis Joyce (Dick), of Bunnabinna, Tourmakeady and late of Tamworth, Australia. He was born in Tourmakeady but moved and his death took place in Australia. He is survived by his widow Kay, son Sean; daughters Lynn and Sarah; brothers Padraic, Australia, sisters Sarah, Australia; Ann and Peggy, USA; and Kerry Anne, England and Mary, Bridie and Eileen, Ireland. Also many relations, friends and neighbours in Tourmakeady. Burial took place in Australia, on Saturday, March 6.
