WADDELL Media are seeking applications from Irish speakers for Mo Theach, Do Theach (My House, Your House), a six-part series funded by the Irish Language Broadcast Fund for TG4. The series follows people from all walks of life participating in a house swap. Over 5 days, they will experience every aspect of a brand new location and a great chance to visit beautiful, scenic locations all over Ireland. With the help of a welcome letter, participants will have to chance to experience life, culture and the social scene in another part of the country! Filming will take place in July and August. THE annual Ceol Na Locha will take place as usual in Coláiste Mhuire, Tourmakeady, week commencing Monday, August 9 to Friday August 13. The Scoil Ceol will be held through Irish, at Coláiste Mhuire, with the Seisun Ceol every evening, in the various venues in the Tourmakeady area. THE Tourmakeady youth club and Óige na Gaeltachta have organised another Summer Camp in Tourmakeady. The camp will be full of energy, fun, sport and craic. Activities will include music, art, soccer, volleyball, treasure hunt and a day trip out. Activities will be through Irish. All participants will be getting an Óige na Gaeltachta T-shirt. The date is Monday August 16 to Friday August 20. National Trails Day.

Partry residents bonus number game
WELL done to Mamie Munroe, Kilkerran and Dermot Seymour, Partry, both of whom won €100 in the Partry residents bonus number game, choosing number 12. There will be more winners, on Saturday, July 24.
VEC courses
COUNTY Mayo VEC will provide courses in a range of different location throughout the county. Each programme will identify and explore specific emerging areas of economic growth, (tourism, media, aquaculture, marine and energy). Courses will include communications, IT, personal effectiveness and mathematics, career guide and study skills. Details are available at www.mayovec.ie or (087) 7549189. THE latest winners of the Tourmakeady hall bonus number game on July 17, were Eoin and Mae Heneghan, Tourmakeady. Also Michael John Casey, Carheen. Both families receive €100 for choosing number 12. There will be more winners at the weekend.
Silver wedding anniversary
CONGRATULATIONS to Carmel and Mikey Shoevlin, Churchfield, Tourmakeady, who celebrated their silver wedding anniversary at the weekend. They were married in July 1985. They were blessed with two daughters Lisa and Jodie and three sons Michael, Aiden and Robbie.
Mass was celebrated in the home by newly retired Canon Desmond Grogan, who also married them. Mass was followed on Saturday, by a reception at Máire Lukes, Tourmakeady, where a great night was enjoyed by everyone.

Rambling Rogues at Máire Lukes
ON their first visit to Tourmakeady, on Friday, July 23, are the brilliant Rambling Rogues, at Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant. This talented group are All-Ireland champions. They represented Ireland in the world championships in Los Angeles and they also played in Las Vegas.
On Saturday night there is a fundraiser for the Mayo COPD Association, with lots of raffles, singing, dancing and finger food. A great night is assured.
On Sunday, July 25, there is show night, from 8 p.m. to late, in the lounge.
The restaurant is open on Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, for lunch, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dial a menu at (094) 9544080.

BLOOD transfusion night will take place in Ballinrobe community school, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21.

THERE was no outright winner of the GAA lotto held at Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant. The numbers chosen were 2, 12, 18 and 29. The consolation winners were Michael Sheridan, Ballyheane; R. Brogan, Tubbercurry; Sean og Bourke, Partry; Philip O’Malley, Letterineen and Michéal Heneghan, Goirtin a Colle. Tickets are €2 each or €5 for three tickets.
Bereavement
THE death has taken place of Tom Heneghan, Srah, Tourmakeady, better known as Tommy Murray. He was laid to rest after 11 a.m. Mass in Tourmakeady cemetery, on Tuesday, July 20. May he rest in peace.

CEAD Mile Failte to Fr. John Kenny Parish Priest, on his arrival to the parish replacing Fr. Desmond Grogan, who has retired. Fr. John is wished many long years in the parish.
Féile Thuar Mhic Éadaigh
Tourmakeady GAA Club and Ladies Gaelic Football Club are jointly organising a festival on Sunday, August 1, in aid of the development of new facilities at Páirc Naomh Mhuire, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh. An exciting programme of events has been planned for the day, including three matches in Páirc Naomh Mhuire, an open air concert and barbeque, and a prize draw.
The action kicks off at 3 p.m. when the Tourmakeady Under 14 team, who are in great form this season, take on the challenge of Moy Davitts, the recently crowned All-Ireland Féile na nÓg Champions.
The Tourmakeady Ladies welcome Mícheal Breathnach’s at 4.30 p.m. followed by the Gaeltarra Cup Tournament, in which the Tourmakeady senior mens team play against Headford at 6 p.m.
Following the action in Páirc Naomh Mhuire, there is an open air concert and barbeque at the Lough Mask Inn, with food being served from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Music will be provided by “Phase” with support from local traditional musicians. There is a prize draw on the night with a number of enticing prizes up for grabs, including a tonne of seasoned firewood, 20 pieces of striploin steak, two tickets for the All-Ireland football final, a €50 fuel voucher from Ballintubber stores, six months gym membership for two persons at the McWilliam Park Hotel, a €50 voucher and bottle of wine from Paddy’s Tourmakeady, a €100 voucher for the Castlecourt Hotel leisure centre and concessionary passes to the Ballinrobe Races.
Admission to the games in Páirc Naomh Mhuire is €5 for a day pass and under 16s free. A combined ticket for the open air concert, prize draw and barbeque costs €10.
Tickets are available from members of Tourmakeady GAA Club and Ladies Football Club and in local outlets, from Tuesday July 20 onwards. Even if you can’t come along on the night, your ticket will be included in the prize draw, so please support Féile Thuar Mhic Éadaigh.

The Tourmakeady Youth Club and Óige na Gaeltachta are coming together this summer to organise summer camps in Tourmakeady. These clubs will be full of energy, fun, sport and craic. Activities will include – music, art, soccer, volleyball, treasure hunt and a day trip! Just like the youth club all activities will be through Irish but there will be no Irish classes during the camps. All participants will be getting an Óige Na Gaeltachta t-shirt Dates: Age group 6 years to 13 years. Campa A: 19th-23rd July Campa B: 16th-20th August. Book launch success
IT was a fantastic evening last Sunday where a large audience attended the launch of the latest book written by Fr. Padraig Standún. Thank you to all concerned the many volunteers, helpers and the entertainers. In particular thank you to Mick Lally for his wonderful contribution and to everyone else that gave their support for the evening and for such a great farewell to Father.
The book, which is in Gaeilge, is entitled Tuar Mhic Éadaigh stair agus Seanchas.
Congratulations to the Tourmakeady hall committee, for the brilliant job completed in the hall, which will be 60 years old in 2011. Well done to the management team and all the men and women. The hall has a remodelled dance hall, a new party room, showers, gym, meeting facilities, computer rooms and additional toilet facilities.

THE latest winner of the bonus number game draw is Richie Heneghan, who will receive €100 for having number 8. The next draw is on Saturday.

Under 14s held to a draw
TOURMAKEADY Under 14 footballers were held to a draw by Kilmeena, in the opening round of the west Mayo championship, on Thursday. An exciting and very competitive game, with great scores by both sides, ended level on a score line of Kilmeena 4-9 to Thuar Mhic Eadaigh 3-12. In an all round good performance by Tourmakeady, Kevin Lally and Jack Forde were particularly influential.
European triathlon championship
WELL done to Martin Lydon, son of Bridie and Padraig Lydon, Tourmakeady, Claremorris, who took part in the European triathlon championships, held in Athlone, on Saturday, July 3.
Martin, based in Waterford, came seventh. It was a great achievement, as there were 4,000 entrants. He took to the swimming pool for 750 metres, on his bike for 20k and ran 5k. He completed this task in one hour and 17 minutes. He is now named on the Irish team for the world championships, in Budapest, for September. He is wished the best of luck.

Welcome Fr. Kenny
CEAD Mile Fáilte to Fr. John Kenny p.p. who will be taking up his duties as parish priest, in the parish of Ballyovey, which covers both Partry and Tourmakeady churches and Bunáin Oratory.
Fr. John is coming from Dunmore and will be replacing Canon Desmond Grogan, who is retiring on Friday, July 16, as parish priest in Partry. Fr. Kenny will also have to cover Tourmakeady, as Fr. Padraig Standún is transferring to Carna.
On Thursday last, a huge crowd attended Fr. Standún’s farewell. He received huge praise and appreciation and a number of presentations took place.
Next weekend, everyone is asked to turnout and give Fr. John Kenny a real Cead Mile Fáilte to the Tourmakeady Mass.
Bereavement
SYMPATHY is extended to Eilish Dermody and Mary Sheridan, on the sudden death of Peter O’Halloran, in Chicago, Illinois. He was son of Eileen Sheridan, Shanvallyard, Tourmakeady, aged 52. He was also son-in-law of the late Hugh and Maureen Naughton, Derrig, formerly of Ballybannon, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady.
Peter is survived by his wife Maureen, son Danny and daughter Meghan, mother Eileen, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and also extended family. Burial took place on Friday, July 9. May his soul rest in peace.

COUNTY Mayo VEC will provide courses in a range of different location throughout the county. Each programme will identify and explore specific emerging areas of economic growth, (tourism, media, aquaculture, marine and energy). It is important for the area to show an interest in our transport needs so that we may be able to improve rural transport facilities in Tourmakeady. Closing date July 15 2010.
Farewell function for Fr. Padraig Standún
AN invitation is extended to everyone in Tourmakeady and surrounding areas, to a final farewell function for Fr. Padraig Standún cc, Tourmakeady, who will be leaving in mid-July, for Carna. He will be taking up the position of parish priest in Carna. The function is on Thursday, July 8, at Máire Lukes, Tourmakeady.
The community is saddened by the departure of Fr. Padráig after 15 years. He will be greatly missed. He is wished well in Carna as parish priest and will always be welcomed back on any occasion to Tourmakeady.
Céad Mile Failte goes out to Fr. John Kenny p.p. who will now be resident in Partry and is replacing Canon Desmond Grogan, who is retiring. He will still be living in the parish.
Wedding bells
THE Church of the Most Holy Rosary Abbeyleix was the setting for the marriage of Ms. Aisling Dunne, daughter of Ann and Brendan Dunne, Abbeyleix, Co. Laoise, with Mr. Stiofán O’Neill, Derryveeney, Tourmakeady.
The ceremony was performed by Fr. Gerard Ahern. Matron of honour was Finola O’Keeffe and bridesmaids were Catriona Dunne and Lorraine Dunne. The flowergirl was Riona Kenny. The best man was Anthony O’Neill. The groomsmen were Michéal O’Neill and Martin O’Neill. The pageboy was Tomas O’Keeffe. Music was by Nicola Young. Readers were Bernadette Kearney and Gemma Tierney. Mass servers were Michela Kearney and Clodagh Kenny.
Following the official duties in Abbeyleix, a reception was held at the Tullamore Court Hotel, in Tullamore. The communities of Tourmakeady and Abbeyleix unite in wishing the happy couple many years of wedded bliss. Stiofán is a prominent member of the Tourmakeady GAA team and club.

New baby girl
CONGRATULATIONS to Damian Conroy and Vikki Mortimer, Tourmakeady and Wales, on the birth of their baby daughter, Chloe last week. Baby Chloe is the first granddaughter for the Mortimer family and also for Mary and Liam Conroy, Treenlaur, Tourmakeady.

Bereavements
THE death has taken place after an illness of Michael Heneghan, Manulla, Castlebar and formerly of Derrassa, Srah, Tourmakeady. Locally known as Mick Heneghan, he was predeceased by his wife Bridgie (nee Costello), of Killawalla. They were married in Ballintubber, in 1962 and were blessed with a son Michael Joe.
Michael worked hard in England and loved to return to Tourmakeady to visit family and friends.
Mick was widowed suddenly but was well cared for by his son Michael and daughter-in-law Fiona and he loved his three grandchildren.
Large crowds paid their respects on Thursday, July 1 and his remains reposed at St. Mary’s funeral home, Tourmakeady. Burial took place on Friday, in Killawalla cemetery, after 12 noon Mass, in Tourmakeady church, by Fr. Padráig Standún cc Tourmakeady.
Mick is survived by his son Michael, daughter-in-law Fiona, grandchildren Claire, Tommie and Yvonne; brothers John and Tommy, sisters Annie and Kathleen, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law and extended family members. May his soul rest in peace.
Sympathy is also extended to Stephen Thornton, Church View, Ballinrobe and formerly Letterineen, Tourmakeady, on the death of his wife Teresa, after a lengthy illness, at the Friars Lodge nursing home, Ballinrobe; where she received great care.
A native of Kerry, Teresa was deprived of her sight over 40 years ago but had her husband by her side ever since. She spent her final three years in Friars Lodge. On Friday, July 2, her remains were removed from St. Mary’s funeral home, to Tourmakeady church. Burial took place in Churchfield cemetery, after 12 noon. Mass was on Saturday, celebrated by Fr. Padráig Standún, assisted by Fr. Eustace, Ballinrobe. Teresa is survived by her husband Stephen, sister-in-law Bridgie Joyce and also nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as neighbours in Ballinrobe and Tourmakeady. May her gentle soul rest with the Lord.

Over 60 annual trip
TOURMAKEADY over 60 annual trip to Knock Shrine, takes place on Friday, July 9, with Mass at the Shrine, at 12.30 p.m. by Fr. Padráig Standún cc Tourmakeady. The bus will leave O’Tooles, Tourmakeady, at 10 a.m. A great day of prayer, with lunch being arranged will take place and there are still some seats available. Western Care fundraiser
A PACKED house is assured for The Western Care Ballinrobe fundraiser, at Máire Lukes, Tourmakeady, on Friday, July 9, with the super Linda Welby and Cois Tine, on stage, with lots of prizes and raffles on the night. Linda will be singing all he recent hit records.
Successful football trip
TOURMAKEADY footballers made the long trip to Cill Comainn, a successful one, when they took both championship points in the 2010 intermediate championship and must now have one leg in the Mayo quarter-finals. The final score on Sunday was Tourmakeady 0-14 to Cill Comainn 1-6. Tourmakeady now play Hollymount in Hollymount, in the last of this series, on July 25.
House stations
THE house stations will be held in the home of Delia and Dennis Harrington, Partry, on Thursday, July 8, at 8 p.m. This nice tradition was also held by Michael and Marion O’Malley, Srah and Brian and Mary McCusker, Treen, last week. All the families are thanked.

THERE was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA local lotto held at the Lough Mask Inn, on Saturday. The numbers drawn were 6, 20, 24 and 32. Consolation prizes went to Eamonn Gibbons, Lough Mask Inn, Damien Conroy, Trianláir, Margaret Lally, Tourmakeady, Tommie Heneghan, Churchfield and Tom Gibbons, Trianlair. The Tourmakeady Youth Club and Óige na Gaeltachta are coming together this summer to organise summer camps in Tourmakeady. These clubs will be full of energy, fun, sport and craic. Activities will include – music, art, soccer, volleyball, treasure hunt and a day trip! Just like the youth club all activities will be through Irish but there will be no Irish classes during the camps. Farewell function for Fr. Padraig Standún
AN invitation is extended to everyone in Tourmakeady and surrounding areas, to a final farewell function for Fr. Padraig Standún cc, Tourmakeady, who will be leaving in mid-July, for Carna. He will be taking up the position of parish priest in Carna. The function is on Thursday, July 8, at Máire Lukes, Tourmakeady.
The community is saddened by the departure of Fr. Padráig after 15 years. He will be greatly missed. He is wished well in Carna as parish priest and will always be welcomed back on any occasion to Tourmakeady.
Céad Mile Failte goes out to Fr. John Kenny p.p. who will now be resident in Partry and is replacing Canon Desmond Grogan, who is retiring. He will still be living in the parish.
Wedding bells
THE Church of the Most Holy Rosary Abbeyleix was the setting for the marriage of Ms. Aisling Dunne, daughter of Ann and Brendan Dunne, Abbeyleix, Co. Laoise, with Mr. Stiofán O’Neill, Derryveeney, Tourmakeady.
The ceremony was performed by Fr. Gerard Ahern. Matron of honour was Finola O’Keeffe and bridesmaids were Catriona Dunne and Lorraine Dunne. The flowergirl was Riona Kenny. The best man was Anthony O’Neill. The groomsmen were Michéal O’Neill and Martin O’Neill. The pageboy was Tomas O’Keeffe. Music was by Nicola Young. Readers were Bernadette Kearney and Gemma Tierney. Mass servers were Michela Kearney and Clodagh Kenny.
Following the official duties in Abbeyleix, a reception was held at the Tullamore Court Hotel, in Tullamore. The communities of Tourmakeady and Abbeyleix unite in wishing the happy couple many years of wedded bliss. Stiofán is a prominent member of the Tourmakeady GAA team and club.

The Tourmakeady Youth Club and Óige na Gaeltachta are coming together this summer to organise summer camps in Tourmakeady. These clubs will be full of energy, fun, sport and craic. Activities will include – music, art, soccer, volleyball, treasure hunt and a day trip! Just like the youth club all activities will be through Irish but there will be no Irish classes during the camps. Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh
THE community centre is open this week as follows Monday 10.30am – 3.00pm. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 500pm. Friday 1pm. to 5pm. However, please confirm that someone is in attendance by calling (094) 9544295. The renovation work on the hall is continuing well and as you can see the work is nearly completed.

THE Social Welfare officer is in attendance at the Medical Centre on Wednesdays 12 noon to 1.00pm
Special Olympics success
CONGRATULATIONS to Ms. Bridget Walsh, Drimcoggy, Tourmakeady, on her great achievements at the recent Special Olympics, held in Limerick.
Bridget already has a cabinet full of trophies at home but arrived back with one gold, one silver and one bronze, in table tennis. She is a keen sportswoman, favouring Mayo, in Gaelic and she is also a fan of Manchester United. It is hoped her success continues in the coming years.
Tourmakeady hall bonus number game
THE latest winners of the Tourmakeady hall bonus number game are Liam and Alice Lally, Srah and Joan and Aiden Fahy, Ballinrobe. Both couples receive €100 for choosing 22. The next draw will be on Saturday. All outstanding fees should be paid to Sally or Kathleen Gibbons, all proceeds go to the hall.
Partry Under 14 soccer team success
WELL done to Partry under 14 soccer team, who won the Mayo under 14 county league last week, when they defeated Westport 6-0 in the final league game. All the boys and the management team of Austin O’Neill and Michael Cronin are congratulated.
The Paddy Hoban Sound on stage
ON stage at Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, on Friday, July 2, are The Paddy Hoban Sound.
On Sunday, July 4, from 8 p.m. until late, there will be traditional music sessions with song and dance.
On Thursday, July 8, it is farewell to Fr. Padraig Standún, with Ceann Golam on stage. The restaurant is open for Sunday lunch, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Telephone (094) 9544080.

CONGRATULATIONS to Tourmakeady under 14 footballers, who won the county Under 14 league, on Sunday last. They defeated St. Gerard’s on a score of 5-11 to 2-5.

THE annual Ceol Na Locha will be held in Tourmakeady, as usual in August, from Monday, August 9, to Friday, August 13. More information will be available shortly.

TOURMAKEADY Agricultural Show takes place, at the GAA ground, Tourmakeady, on Sunday, July 25. The next meeting is on Friday, July 9, at 8.30p.m. in Tourmakeady hall. Full details of the show are available at www.tourmakeady.com.

THE cemetery Mass at Churchfield will take place on Sunday, July 4, at 12.30 p.m. and on Sunday, July 11, the cemetery Mass at Tourmakeady church, takes place at 11.30 a.m. A big céad míle fáilte awaits everyone.
Farewell to Fr. Standún function
AN invitation is extended to everyone in Tourmakeady and surrounding areas to a final farewell function for Fr. Padraig Standún cc Tourmakeady.
He will be leaving in mid-July, for Carna. He will be taking up a post as parish priest.
The function is on Thursday, July 8, at Máire Lukes, Tourmakeady.
After 15 years in Tourmakeady, Fr. Standún has many friends and he will be missed greatly. However, he is wished well in Carna and he will be welcomed back to Tourmakeady at any time.
Céad Míle Fáilte goes out to Fr. John Kenny pp, who will be now resident in Partry and is replacing Canon Desmond Grogan, who is retiring.
