Historical Drimbawn House - thank you to everyone who visited the gardens which were open to the public last weekend.  

Another important date for your diary in Tourmakeady. The 3rd Annual Tourmakeady 10K takes place on Saturday 2nd August, 2014. Start time 1pm. Suitable for runners, joggers and walkers. Route is a loop along the scenic shores of Lough Mask. Water stations along route and refreshments afterwards in the hall. Prizes for first, second and third in male and female categories. Registration is €20 and you can register online (runireland.com) or on the day from 10.30am.  This year we also have a 1.5K fun run for children from 9 - 14 years. Register on the day from 10.30am.  €5 per child or €10 for 2 or more children from the same family.  All proceeds go to the Páirc Spraoi and community projects. 

Óige na Gaeltachta Annual Campa Samhraidh Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Tourmakeady Summer Camp takes place in Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh Tourmakeady Monday 30th June to Friday 4th July 2014 from 10.00am to 3.00pm   Age 7 upwards.

The Directors of the Hall Committee would most sincerely like to thank Doris and Ronnie Wilson and family for their most generous donation of €2500.00 towards to Hall refurbishment debt.   We took this loan out in 2010 to complete refurbishment works in the hall and we are very grateful to the Wilson family for this tremendous help and support.  We would also like to acknowledge all the wonderful help on the two days while the beautiful gardens of Drimbawn House were open to the Tourmakeady community and public in general.


Mayo in Motion Walk Thank you to everyone who took part.

The Tourmakeady Agriculture Show takes place on Sunday 27th July 2014. It will be held at the GAA pitch! It is a great day out for all the family so all that is left to do is to make a note in your diary and get ready for the show - enter one or all of the many attractions - the sheep horses and all the other categories such as photography vegetables pets corner cookery crafts - see you on the day!

Bonus number the winners of the Tourmakeady Hall bonus number draw are Anne and Connor O’Toole and Eileen Heneghan - Murray each receive €100 for having bonus number 21.   Thank you for your support.  
Coiste Cultúr Teanga agus Forbartha Thuar Mhic Éadaigh has been approached to promote the Better Energy Communities / Area Programme in Tourmakeady.   This is the national upgrade programme to retrofit Ireland’s building stock and facilities to high standards of energy efficiency, thereby reducing fossil fuel use, running costs and greenhouse gas emissions.   If you would be interested in finding out more or taking part please contact us on 087 1162058.

Ceol na Locha Music Festival will take place this year from Monday 11th August to 15th August 2014 in Tourmakeady.  Please make a note in your diary! Brochures are available now in Halla Tourmakeady, O’Toole’s and tourist offices etc!

Litter Action League 2014:    We received the results of the litter action competition for the month of May, thankfully there has been an improvement in the results.   The areas with the most litter this month was from the Lough Mask Inn to the speed limit at Coláiste Muire and from the junction at the top of the  church road to the cemetery.  Please help us to keep Tourmakeady litter free.   Don’t throw your litter on the side of the road, please bring it home with you and dispose of it properly.  We are very grateful to everyone who does their part in keeping litter and cigarette butts under control in the area.   Keep up the good work and let us achieve a better result for the month of June.

GAA lotto
THERE were no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA local lotto held at O’Toole’s, Tourmakeady, on June 21. The numbers chosen were 5, 25, 26 and 31 and the consolation winners were Sinead Gossan, Treenlair, John and Fiona Heneghan, Churchfield, Margaret and Mattie Heneghan, Tawnagh, Chris McGing, Glenmask, and Tom Prendergast, Shraheen.

The next draw will be on July 5 at the Lough Mask Inn with the B team on lotto duty. Tickets, at €2 each or three for €5, are on sale throughout the parish.

Bonus number
Well done to Cathy and Jim O’Neill, Partry on winning the Partry residents’ bonus number on June 21. They receive €100 for having number 21. There’s still a few vacancies for anyone wishing to join.

50/50 winner
The winner of the Colaiste Muire 50/50 weekly draw on Friday, June 20, was Tom Whelan, Trianlair.

Tickets, €2, are on sale now in Corrigan’s store, Ballintubber, and Finlay’s of Ballinrobe. Half of the proceeds go to the colaiste every week. Thank you for your support to date.

Tourmakeady 10k
The third annual Tourmakeady 10k takes place on Saturday August 2, starting at 1 p.m. It’s suitable for runners, joggers and walkers. The route follows a loop along the oceanic shores of Lough Mask.

There will be water stations along route and refreshments afterwards in the hall. There are prizes for first, second and third in the male and female categories.

Registration is €20 and you can register online (runireland.com) or on the day from 10.30 a.m.

This year there is also a 1.5k fun run for children from nine to 14 years. Register on the day from 10.30 a.m. Entry is €5 per child or €10 for two or more children from the same family.

All proceeds go to the Pairc Spraoi and community projects.

Sympathy
We extend our sympathy to Phil and Brian Fallon, Churchfield, Tourmakeady, on the death in Chicago of their aunt, Cathy Keane, sister of the late Bridgie Fallon. Cathy was laid to rest in Chicago. May she rest in peace.

Death
The death has taken place of Sean Heneghan, Clonee, Partry, in his mid-eighties following on illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Terasa.

Sean was laid to rest in Ballyovey Cemetery on Saturday, June 28. He is survived by daughters Mary and Ann, sons Noel, Tommy, Seamus and Sean also daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren also extended family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.

On stage
Back on stage at Máire Luke’s Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, this Friday, July 4, is the brilliant Survivor with his great show.

Gardens open to the General Public  Visit Tourmakeady to see the gardens of historical Drimbawn House which will be open on Saturday 21stJune and Sunday 22nd June from 12 noon to 4.00pm.  The beauty of the estate blends in with the splendid landscape which has magnificent views of Lough Mask The garden trail reveals a large variety of flora and fauna and will provide the gardening enthusiast with a large array of species around the estate.  

Special Olympics Ireland  We are very proud of  Bridget Walsh from Tourmakeady who won a gold medal and a bronze medal in the Kayaking at the Special Olympics Ireland! We had a very enjoyable celebration in the hall to welcome Bridget back – a big thank you to everyone who joined in at such short notice.  There was a brilliant crowd! Thank you to those who brought refreshments and to Maureen for the lovely congratulation cakes and the massive cup cakes. Everyone who helped including those who helped in the kitchen a big thank you. The joy, the achievement, the time, the music. Thank you it was  very much appreciated! Another event that puts Tourmakeady on the map!

Litter Action League 2014   We have received the first results for the month of April for the Litter Action League and we are disappointed with the result.    There was a lot of litter including cigarette butts, plastic wrappers, aerosol cans and hard plastic materials found at inspection.   They have asked us for an improvement for the month of May and we are asking for your help to keep the following areas litter free.  From the speed limit at Colaiste Muire to the Health Centre, from O’Tooles to the speed limit on the Gortfree Rd and from Tourmakeady Woods to the Cemetery.   It is your village, so please help and keep Tourmakeady litter free!
