Birth of granddaughter
Congratulations to Sean and Aine Uí Chongaile, Ballybannon, Tourmakeady, on the birth of their granddaughter, Ciarra O’Conghaile, who is daughter to Eoin and Colette Conghaile, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.
Tourmakeady hall bonus number game winners
Congratulations to Eibhlín Uí Mháille, Drimcoggie, Srah and Noirin and Pat Dé Burca, Gortfree, Tourmakeady. Both families win €100 for choosing number 15, in the Tourmakeady hall bonus number game.
Bereavement
The sudden death occurred of Mrs. Mary Staunton, Upper Churchfield, Tourmakeady, on Monday, August 3. In her early 70s, Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Michael, in June 1996.
She was a hard working woman, jolly and generous to everyone. She had great time in life for her family and loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed her weekly bingo bus trips to Castlebar.
The huge turnout on both funeral days bore testament to the popularity of Mary and her family. Her remains were removed to St. Mary’s church, Tourmakeady, on Wednesday and received by Fr. Padraig Standún C.C. Tourmakeady.
A packed church attended the farewell on Thursday, celebrated by Fr. Padraig Staundún, assisted by Canon James Walsh, Kilmeena. Requiem hymns were given by Padraig Durcan.
Mary is survived by her daughters Maureen and son-in-law Tommie Joe Durcan; Kathleen and son-in-law Martin Durcan, son Martin and daughter-in-law Maureen Staunton and son Michael, all of Tourmakeady, sisters Noreen, Catherine and Judy, brothers Peter, Gerry and Michael. Also grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. May her soul rest in peace. Mass will be celebrated for Mary, on Wednesday, at 7.30 p.m. in Tourmakeady church.
Intermediate footballers book a place
Tourmakeady intermediate footballers booked a place in the quarter-finals, thanks to a brilliant double save by Brian Heneghan in goal and a super point in the dying minutes by cousin John Heneghan. This means Tourmakeady join Kilmaine and leap frog over Killala in their group. The final score was Tourmakeady 1-9 to Hollymount 1-8 in a great game.
Wedding bells
Friday, August 14, was the day Ms. Kathleen Ann Heneghan, daughter of Eoin and May Heneghan, Waterfall Cottage, Tourmakeady, Claremorris, married Mr. Michael Hession, son of the late John Hession, Portroyal, Partry. The beautiful ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Padraig Standún C.C. assisted by Canon Desmond Grogan P.P. Partry. Music and song was presented by Sinead and Darragh Healy. Bridesmaids were Christine Staunton, Una Heneghan and Siobhan Heneghan, all sisters of the bride. Bestmen were Thomas Hession, Vincent Hession and Ger Sullivan. Flower girls were Seoidin Staunton and Aoife Kelly. The reception was held at the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, where over 400 people had a most enjoyable day. Amongst the guests were Mary Gibbons and Maureen Heneghan, grandmothers of Kathleen Ann. The couple are wished a long life and happiness.

Sean-Nos Dancing Anyone wishing to learn the art of sean-nos dancing is asked to contact Trish at 086-8722353. Classes or adults and children will be held in Tourmakeady in September.
Look after your valuables. People are asked not to leave any valuables visible in their cars whilst they are left vacant, for example attending Mass, attending walking trips or sports events, as there have been some unwanted visitors to the area recently.
