Devastated at closure of garda station
ONCE again Tourmakeady is in the news, and not for the first time for the wrong reason. The village and area in general are devastated at the announcement last week that the garda station in Tourmakeady is to close, a station that is only a few years old, now left like many other buildings in the Gaeltacht. Despite the great effort of the local Coiste Pobal and the community to save it, it may have all have been in vain. It appears all efforts to save the barracks fell on deaf ears by all parties in the county. It is a sad reflection on our representatives now, with the power of our country, treating rural villages like Tourmakeady in this manner. The Community Alert are the only hope at the moment in the Srah to Finney area, until they are disbanded by the same powers that be.
