Tourmakeady walkers meet every Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. All interested walkers are very welcome to contact 094 95 44295 for the walking destination.
Weekly bus service to Castlebar
Don’t forget that there is a weekly bus service to Castlebar. Take the hassle out of driving into town. There is a bus every Friday leaving O’Toole’s at 10.30 a.m. Free passes are accepted. It is open to all. Other collection points are available. It returns at approximately 3 p.m. Please support this worthwhile service.
Welfare officer – change of day
A SOCIAL welfare officer will be in attendance every Thursday between 12 noon and 1 p.m. at the Medical Centre, Tourmakeady.
Second annual heritage day
ALL roads lead to Partry, on Sunday, August 28, at 1 p.m. for the second annual heritage day. It will be held in the grounds of Partry House, midway between Keel Bridge and Wards Tavern.
Some of the events include a vintage display, eagle flying show, art and crafts, pony trap rides, first-aid exhibition, guided woodland tours and talks, bouncy castles, raffles, fly fishing displays and best dressed on the day. There will be music and dancing all day long. Also a photography competition sponsored by Treacy’s, Ballinrobe. There will be a photo of the day competition with the best caption, which must be handed in to Treacy’s, Ballinrobe, by Wednesday, August 31. First prize is a digital camera. Second prize is a digital photo frame and a third prize of 100 4x6 prints. A great day is assured for young and old. Cead Mile Fáilte to everyone
21st birthday celebrations
CONGRATULATIONS to Máirtin Staunton, son of Geraldine and Pat Staunton, Cappaduff, Tourmakeady, who celebrated his 21st birthday with his family and friends last week. Máirtin well known as a staff member of the famous Matt Molloys, Westport, is grandson of Kathleen Staunton, Drimcoggy, Tourmakeady.
Reunion 2012 meeting
THE next meeting of the 2012 reunion group will be on Monday, August 29, at 9 p.m. sharp.
The 10th anniversary dinner will be on Friday, August 3, 2012. Other items on the programme include beat on the street, the first marathon American tea party, céilí mór, golf classic, football tournament for ladies and gents, car treasure hunt and fishing competition. The annual barbecue night will close the reunion on August 5, 2012.

Céol Na Locha success
TOURMAKEADY was delighted to welcome a special guest at the annual céol Na Locha last week, which was a huge success.
The 2011 New York Person of the Year is Mrs. Noreen O’Donoghue, who was formerly Noreen Lydon, Cappenacreha, Tourmakeady, who arrived at Coláiste Mhuie Tuar Mhic Éadaigh to partake in the weekly events.
Having attended school in Derrypark, at the age of 16 she moved to Co. Meath with her parents. Later the same year she moved to New York to work and she became involved in the culture through Irish. She still attends weekly meetings for group talks in Irish. She has many cousins in Tourmakeady and surrounding areas. She is an excellent musician, who has featured on MidWest Radio. She was welcomed to Tourmakeady and congratulated on her achievement of New York Person of the Year.
Lough Mask swim
THE ever popular Lough Mask swim will take place on Sunday, August 28, where a big crowd is expected at Paddy’s Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, at 1 p.m. The brave swimmers will leave Paddy’s Pier and swim across Lough Mask and arrive at Cuslough Bay, near Ballinrobe. It is always a highly successful event with a huge attendance.
Ladies day on Lough Mask
THE annual ladies day on Lough Mask will take place on Sunday, August 28. All ladies with an interest in fishing are asked to take part in the competition.
Tourmakeady hall bonus number game winners
WELL done to Padraig and Ann Gibbons, and Noreen and Seamus Hughes, on winning the August 20, Tourmakeady hall bonus number game. Both couples receive €100 for choosing number 28. The next draw is on Saturday, August 27, at 8 p.m.

A MEMORIAL Mass will take place on September 16, at 8 p.m. in Partry community centre, in commemoration of Monsignor James Horan’s centenary. TOURMAKEADY Ladies footballers take on Cill Comainn, in the county semi-final, at Tourmakeady, on Saturday, August 27, at 7 p.m. sharp. Full support for this important game is requested.
Tourmakeady had a great victory over Westport in the quarter-final recently.
Death in the USA
THE death has taken place in the USA of Dr. Peadar O’Toole, formerly of Tourmakeady, brother of Tomas O’Toole, Tourmakeady. His remains will repose at St. Mary’s funeral home Tourmakeady, on Wednesday, August 24, between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. in Tourmakeady church. Burial will take place on Thursday, following 11 a.m. Mass in Churchfield cemetery. Dr. Peader is survived by his daughter, brother Tomas, sisters Grace and Peggy, sister-in-law, Bide O’Toole, nieces, nephews and a large circle of cousins. May his soul rest in peace.
Death in Westport
SYMPATHY is extended to Mrs. Lynn Tubbs, Derreenascobe, Killawalla, Westport, on the death of her husband Colin Tubbs, following an illness. Aged 62, Colin was a hard worker for COPD fundraising and he was a weekly visitor to Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant for the traditional music sessions

TOURMAKEADY senior footballers are back in action on Saturday, August 27, in the senior championship relegation semi-final. Tourmakeady take on Garrymore, at 4.30 p.m. in Hollymount. All possible support is requested

THE annual summer céilí takes place at Party community centre, on Saturday, August 20, with the Carousel Céilí Band on stage. The doors open at 9.30 p.m. and dancing starts at 10 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

There will also be the best dressed on the day and a photography competition sponsored by Traceys, Ballinrobe. A photo of the day with the best caption must be handed in by August 31. First prize is a camera. Second prize is a photo frame and third prize is 100 prints. A super day is in store and cead mile fáilte to everyone.
Back on stage at Máire Lukes
BACK on stage at Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, on Wednesday, August 17, are Ray Lynham and Conor Duffy. On Friday, August 19, The Bumble Bee show will take place. On Sunday, August 21, there will be traditional music from 8 p.m. until late. Also on Saturday, August 20, the Reflex Band will perform in aid of the Tourmakeady playground project.

CONGRATULATIONS to Patrick Lally, son of Bridie and Patsy Lally, Derryveeney, Tourmakeady, who celebrated his 21st birthday last weekend, with a function at Paddy’s Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady. Patrick is brother to Sean, Maureen, Kathleen, Bridie, Fiona and Patricia.

Reunion 2012
THE 2012 Tourmakeady reunion was officially launched last week. Thanks to everyone who attended. The dates are July 21 to August 5, 2012. The programme includes a reunion dinner, on Saturday, July 28. The next meeting is on August 29.
GAA local lotto
THERE was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady local lotto on August 6. The numbers chosen were 3, 14, 22 and 32. Winners were Ber Durcan, Goirtinmore; Ann Barker, Goirtinmore; Katie Mulroe, Kilkerran and Maura Staunton, Shanvallyard.
On August 13, the numbers drawn were 7, 9, 12 and 17. The consolation winners were Andrew Gibbons, Churchfield, Bernie Heneghan, Ballern, Partry, Brendan Prendergast, Gortmore, Michael Staunton (snr.,) Tawnagh and Cathy Collins, Shanvallycahil.
There is now €6,800 in the next draw which will take place at The Lough Inn, Partry, on Saturday, August 20, with Katie Meeneghan and team G on duty.
Bonny baby
CONGRATULATIONS to Kate Joyce, daughter of Linda and James Joyce, Upper Churchfield, Tourmakeady, who was chosen as the bonny baby at the Tourmakeady show. Kate is granddaughter of Stephen and Maureen Joyce, Finney and also Teresa and Sean Joyce, Upper Churchfield.

A FUNDRAISER for the new children’s playground will take place in Máire Lukes, on Saturday, August 20, with the great Reflex Band performing on stage. Support is requested for this worthwhile event which has been arranged by Coiste Pobail Thuar Mhic Eadaigh.
Boost to Tourmakeady GAA Club
TOURMAKEADY GAA Club received a great boost on Saturday, August 13, with the arrival of Cathal Prendergast, son of Laura and Brendan Prendergast, Gortmore, Tourmakeady. Baby Cathal is a grandson for Ann and Padraig Duffy, Killawalla and first grandchild for Mary and Willie Prendergast, Gortmore, Tourmakeady.

Don’t forget that there is a weekly bus service to Castlebar. Take the hassle out of driving into town. There is a bus every Friday leaving O’Toole’s at 10.30 a.m. Free passes are accepted. A SOCIAL welfare officer will be in attendance every Thursday between 12 noon and 1 p.m. at the Medical Centre, Tourmakeady.
Summer céilí
THE annual summer céilí takes place at Party community centre, on Saturday, August 20, with the Carousel Céilí Band on stage. The doors open at 9.30 p.m. and dancing starts at 10 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Lough Mask swim
THE popular Lough Mask swim will take place on Sunday, August 28 and a big crowd is expected at Paddy’s Restaurant, at 1 p.m. The swimmers will leave Paddy’s Pier and swim across Lough Mask and arrive into Cuslough Bay, near Ballinrobe. It is always a huge event and highly successful.
Ladies day on Lough Mask
THE annual ladies day on Lough Mask will take place on Sunday, August 28. All ladies with an interest in fishing are asked to take part in the competition.
Partry heritage day
THE annual Partry heritage day will be held on the grounds of Partry House, midway between Wards Tavern and Keel Bridge, on Sunday, August 28, starting at 1 p.m. sharp. Some of the events include vintage display, arts and crafts, pony traps and threshing machines display. There will also be the best dressed on the day and a photography competition sponsored by Traceys, Ballinrobe. A photo of the day with the best caption must be handed in by August 31. First prize is a camera. Second prize is a photo frame and third prize is 100 prints. A super day is in store and cead mile fáilte to everyone.
Back on stage at Máire Lukes
BACK on stage at Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, on Wednesday, August 17, are Ray Lynham and Conor Duffy. On Friday, August 19, The Bumble Bee show will take place. On Sunday, August 21, there will be traditional music from 8 p.m. until late. Also on Saturday, August 20, the Reflex Band will perform in aid of the Tourmakeady playground project.

Reunion 2012
THE 2012 Tourmakeady reunion was officially launched last week. Thanks to everyone who attended. The dates are July 21 to August 5, 2012. The programme includes a reunion dinner, on Saturday, July 28. The next meeting is on August 29.
GAA local lotto
THERE was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady local lotto on August 6. The numbers chosen were 3, 14, 22 and 32. Winners were Ber Durcan, Goirtinmore; Ann Barker, Goirtinmore; Katie Mulroe, Kilkerran and Maura Staunton, Shanvallyard.
On August 13, the numbers drawn were 7, 9, 12 and 17. The consolation winners were Andrew Gibbons, Churchfield, Bernie Heneghan, Ballern, Partry, Brendan Prendergast, Gortmore, Michael Staunton (snr.,) Tawnagh and Cathy Collins, Shanvallycahil.

THE annual national heritage day in Partry will take place on Sunday, August 28, at Partry House grounds. Last year was a great success but 2011 promises to be better, however, lots of volunteers are required. If anyone is willing to volunteer please hand your name and number to any member of Partry community council.

TOURMAKEADY senior footballers put on a great display defeating Shrule-Glencorrib on a score of Tourmakeady 1-7 to Shrule-Glencorrib 0-7. The losers still go through on score difference but the Tourmakeady win has Claremorris out of the championship. Tourmakeady now do battle for the relegation position later in August. A Michéal Ronan goal was Sunday’s decider.

AUGUST 5 to 7 is cemetery weekend in the parish. The annual Mass will be celebrated at Churchfield Cemetery, Tourmakeady, on Friday, August 5, at 6.30 p.m. Sunday, August 7, Mass at 10 a.m. will be in Ballyovey Cemetery, Partry. Mass, on Sunday, at 11.30 a.m. will be celebrated at the adjoining cemetery to Tourmakeady church.
Bag packing day
PARTRY Athletic football club is holding a bag packing day on the weekend of August 5 to 7, at Dunnes Stores, Castlebar and on Saturday, August 27, at Tesco Store, Ballinrobe. Volunteers are needed for time slots on both days. Contact Austin, at (086) 3095543.

Social events in the area
ALL roads lead to Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, on Wednesday, August 3, for the J.C.B. man, on his Honda 50, Mr. Seamus Moore. Also coming soon is Paddy Joe of MidWest Radio fame, Kevin Prendergast and Bertha O’Donnell. There is a cover charge of €7. On Friday, August 5, John Joe Deeley and his dance band will perform. There is the usual traditional night every Sunday, from 8 p.m. until late. On Saturday, August 20, Reflex will play in aid of the Tourmakeady playground project.
GAA lotto jackpot
TOURMAKEADY GAA lotto stands at €6,500. The draw will take place on Saturday, August 6, in Paddy’s, Tourmakeady, with David Prendergast and team E on duty. Tickets at €2 are on sale throughout the parish or three tickets for €5. A €100 silver circle ticket is available for a full year of lotto draws.
Parish reunion 2012 meeting
A SHORT meeting for anyone interested in the Tourmakeady 2012 parish reunion will be held at Tourmakeady hall, on Monday, August 8, at 9 p.m. sharp. All ideas or plans will be discussed. The reunion, which is the 10th anniversary will take place on July 22 to August 5, 2012.

Calling all walkers
Tourmakeady walkers will meet at the top of Church Road-Grand Gate, by Tourmakeady Woods on Wednesday August 10 at 7.30 p.m. All interested walkers are very welcome.
Ceol na Locha – new activities and workshops
Ceol na Locha takes place this year from Monday August 8 to Friday August 12 and we have introduced some additional activities see brochure and application form which can be downloaded from our website www.tourmakeady.com link see things to do in the area.
Weekly bus service to Castlebar
Don’t forget that there is a weekly bus service to Castlebar. Take the hassle out of driving into town. There is a bus every Friday leaving O’Toole’s at 10.30 a.m. Free passes are accepted. It is open to all. Other collection points are available. It returns at approximately 3 p.m. Please support this worthwhile service.
Tourmakeady hall bonus number game winners
WELL done to Ronnie and Doris Wilson, Cappaduff and John and Sarah Power, Cappaduff, on winning the July 30, Tourmakeady hall bonus number game. Both couples receive €100 for choosing number 20. The next draw is on Saturday, at 8 p.m.
Cemetery weekend
AUGUST 5 to 7 is cemetery weekend in the parish. The annual Mass will be celebrated at Churchfield Cemetery, Tourmakeady, on Friday, August 5, at 6.30 p.m. Sunday, August 7, Mass at 10 a.m. will be in Ballyovey Cemetery, Partry. Mass, on Sunday, at 11.30 a.m. will be celebrated at the adjoining cemetery to Tourmakeady church.
Bag packing day
PARTRY Athletic football club is holding a bag packing day on the weekend of August 5 to 7, at Dunnes Stores, Castlebar and on Saturday, August 27, at Tesco Store, Ballinrobe. Volunteers are needed for time slots on both days. Contact Austin, at (086) 3095543.
Also a table quiz will be held on Thursday, August 11, at The Lough Inn, Partry.
Church rota
CARMEL Garvey and Kathleen Staunton are the Saturday night Eucharistic Ministers at Tourmakeady. Aoife Morrin will read at the 11.30 a.m. open air Mass, on Sunday, August 7. Eucharistic Ministers are Martin O’Neill and Patricia Heneghan. Mass servers for the weekend are team A and B. If anyone is unable to attend for their turn, please find a replacement. New members are welcome to join the teams. Rose, Noreen and Mary are on church care week.
Social events in the area
ALL roads lead to Máire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, on Wednesday, August 3, for the J.C.B. man, on his Honda 50, Mr. Seamus Moore. Also coming soon is Paddy Joe of MidWest Radio fame, Kevin Prendergast and Bertha O’Donnell. There is a cover charge of €7. On Friday, August 5, John Joe Deeley and his dance band will perform. There is the usual traditional night every Sunday, from 8 p.m. until late. On Saturday, August 20, Reflex will play in aid of the Tourmakeady playground project.
GAA lotto jackpot
TOURMAKEADY GAA lotto stands at €6,500. The draw will take place on Saturday, August 6, in Paddy’s, Tourmakeady, with David Prendergast and team E on duty. Tickets at €2 are on sale throughout the parish or three tickets for €5. A €100 silver circle ticket is available for a full year of lotto draws.
Parish reunion 2012 meeting
A SHORT meeting for anyone interested in the Tourmakeady 2012 parish reunion will be held at Tourmakeady hall, on Monday, August 8, at 9 p.m. sharp. All ideas or plans will be discussed. The reunion, which is the 10th anniversary will take place on July 22 to August 5, 2012.
