Grid West Project
The first round of public consultation on the Grid West project commenced in May 2012. The public and interested stakeholders were invited to comment on the study area map and identify constraints within the study area that should be considered by the project team. The project team also carried out desktop studies and research to gather further information about the study area.
The Grid West project team will now commence a second round of consultation which will take place over a 4 week period from 21st August to 21st September 2012. This second round of public consultation will focus on presenting and consulting on the information gathered to date on the project study area. Please look at this information which is contained in the Constraints Report on their dedicated project website http://www.eirgridprojects.com/projects/gridwest/ and at their Information Centre in Castlebar.

A social welfare officer will be in attendance every Thursday between 12 noon and 1 p.m. at the Medical Centre, Tourmakeady.

Don’t forget that there is a weekly bus service to Castlebar. Take the hassle out of driving into town. There is a bus every Friday leaving O’Toole’s at 10.30 a.m. Free passes are accepted. It is open to all. Other collection points are available. It returns at approximately 3 p.m.

Noreen Maloney will read at the Mass on Saturday, August 25, at 8 p.m., at St. Mary’s, Tourmakeady. Eucharist Ministers are Aine Ui Chonghaile and Michael John Casey. Marion O’Malley will read at the 11.30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, August 26. Eucharistic Ministers are Martin O’Neill and Mary Sheridan. The Drimcoggy ladies are on church care week.

It is ceili time in Partry on Saturday, August 25, with The Carousel Ceili Band. This annual summer ceili will take place at the Partry Community Centre, commencing at 9.30 p.m. There will be lots of raffles and refreshments. Cead mile failte to everyone.
GAA lotto results
There was no outright winner of the Tourmakeady GAA lotto held at O’Tooles. The numbers chosen were 3, 6, 8 and 14. The consolation winners were John Farragher, Partry, Sarah Mulroe, Gortinmore, Richard O’Toole, Cappaduff, Jimmy Heneghan, Goirtin A Colle and Bridie Lally, Tourmakeady. The next draw will take place at The Lough Inn, Partry, with Tom Heneghan and the A team on duty.
21st birthday celebrations
Congratulations to Ms. Marie Prendergast, daughter of Mary and Willie Prendergast, Gort Mor, Tourmakeady, who celebrated her 21st birthday, at Maire Lukes Bar and Restaurant, Tourmakeady, at the weekend. A great night was had by all. Marie is sister to Brendan, Billy and David Prendergast.
Success for Partry Athletic
Seven goals in seven days is a great show for Partry Athletic soccer team. Last week Partry defeated Achill 3-0, in Achill. On Saturday last Ballyhaunis came to Partry but were defeated 4-0, with two goals from Michael Jennings and a goal each from Aaron Darcy and Sean Rowley, to secure the league points for the Partry boys.
Water scheme payment
Tourmakeady water scheme payment is due. Everyone involved is asked to pay €75 to support the agreement made with Mayo County Council to part pay the water charge, which is €150 for the year. The scheme is working with the council to ensure that there will be no interruption with the water supply. It would help if payment could be made as soon as possible at the post office.
Partry Athletic Club lotto
The Partry Athletic Club lotto will recommence on Friday, September 7. Entry is €120 per annum. Contact Barry Bourke, at (087) 7444945 or Martin Coyne, at (087) 9574037 if you wish to join or renew your entry. The support of the parish is very much appreciated.

THE Tourmakeady 2012 parish reunion has come to a close after two weeks of celebrations. The committee wish to thank all the sponsors - Barker Haulage, Údarás na Gaeltachta, Monaghan Mushrooms, J.J. Burke Car Sales, Ballinrobe, Lough Mask Inn, Tourmakeady, Delphi Mountain Resort, the Credit Unions in Castlebar and Ballinrobe, Lough Inn, Partry, the Helm, Westport, and O’Toole’s, Tourmakeady.
The organisers also wish to thank all those who helped out at the various events organised during the reunion.
Members of the committee were Cathy Mulroe, Sally Gibbons, John Gibbons, Ger Lydon, Sean Kearns, Padraig O hEanachan and Michael John Casey. Thanks also goes to Coiste Halla, Tuar Mhic Eadaigh, and Nora for all their assistance and the facilities that were laid on.
Death
The death has taken place of Walter Conway, Gortnacullin, Srah, Claremorris. In his early eighties, Walter was well-known in the fishery board and worked for many years with Mayo County Council.
There was a large attendance at the removal of his remains from Cummins Funeral Home to Tourmakeady Church. Burial took place after Mass, celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P. Walter is survived by his brother, godchild, cousins, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.

Congratulations to Mr. Danny Cox, son of Michael and Mary, Gortfree, Tourmakeady, on his marriage to Miss Emma Witort, daughter of Martin and Eithne. The ceremony was performed by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., at Ballintubber Abbey, and the reception was held in Knockranny Hotel, Westport.

World cup winner
Congratulations go to Mick Dunne, Gortinmore, Tourmakeady, who won the world cup fishing competition held on Lough Mask. The entire Tourmakeady community are delighted for Mick, who is a member of the staff of Allergan. This is the second time for a Tourmakeady success as in 1987 the late Kurt Minread won the title.
New babies
Congratulations to James and Linda Joyce of Upper Churchfield on the birth of their daughter Anna. She is a sister for Kate and granddaughter for Teresa and Sean Joyce of Churchfield.
Congratulations also to Martina and Philip Walsh of Ballygar and Drimcoggy, Tourmakeady, on the birth of their baby son Dara Philip. He is grandson of Maureen Walsh, Drimcoggy.
Fleadh Cheoil
Best wishes to Rhina Coneboy, daughter of Michael and Finnuala, Shanvalley, who will take part in the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Cavan next weekend. Rhina is a member of the Rolling Waves group, Caislean a’Bharraigh.
Rugby star
Congratulations to Mark Gibbons, son of Eddie and Trish, Gortnacullin, Srah, who is currently in New Zealand, and was a player on the Waikato Chiefs who won the rugby super 15. The team had five of the national All-Blacks including Sonny Billwilliams and Aaron Cruden. Mark arrives back in Tourmakeady on August 26 and will continue his studies in Limerick University.
Wedding
The wedding took place of Miss Lizzy Heneghan, Kilfaul, Partry, to Mr. Joe Mahon, Ballintubber. Lizzy is granddaughter of Lil Keane, Clonee, Partry.
Music dates
Music at Máire Luke’s, Tourmakeady, on this Tuesday, August 14, will consist of traditional music and song as part of the Ceol na Locha. On stage tomorrow, Wednesday, are Mick Flavin, Seamus Moore and Frank Nelson.
Coming on Friday, August 17, is Beatlai O Donaill.

The results of the golf classic held at Ballinrobe Golf Club in conjunction with the 2012 reunion are 1st lady Ann Gibbons, 2nd lady Betty Gannon, 3rd lady Barbara Byrne. 1st man Donie Coleman, 2nd Michael Morrin, 3rd Brian Fallon. The gross prize was won by Brendan Byrne.
The committee wish to thank Delphi Mountain Rescue for their sponsorship, the Lough Mask Inn, for the presentation night, and Ger Lydon for organising a great day.

The annual summer céili at Partry Community Hall takes place on Saturday, August 25.
Grants
South West Mayo Development Company invites applications for once-off funding, under the local community development programme 2012 small grants scheme, from voluntary and community groups, agencies based and/or working in the Tourmakeady area. Summer Camp Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh
A Summer Camp will be held in Halla Thuar Mhic Éadaigh. Tourmakeady from Tuesday August 7 to Friday August 10 9.30am to 1.30pm The camp is for children aged 5 to 9 years of age. There will be loads of fun and activities covering ball games, dodge ball, bingo, quizzes, music, painting, rounders, soccer, disco. The camp will have a special needs facilitator and children with special needs are welcome. Cost €25 for the four day camp. Please bring a packed lunch. Tourmakeady Water Scheme payment 2012
Please would everyone who is on the scheme please pay €75 which would help us support the agreement that we made with Mayo County Council to part pay the water charge for this year which overall is €150 for the year. Please be assured that we are working with the Council to ensure that there will be no interruption with the water supply. It would help us greatly though if payment could be made as soon as possible at the Post Office. Thank you.
Tourmakeady 10k Mini Marathon Reminder
To enter the Tourmakeady 10K mini marathon this Saturday August 4 2012 at 1pm is €15 you can register online www.runireland.com or www.tourmakeady.com It is a great opportunity to join in this community event and to run, jog or walk the route whichever suits you. Whatever it will be a great craic. Sponsorship cards are available, if you wish, in the hall. Also you can register on the day in the hall from10.30am. Funds raised will go towards the community recreational park project.

South West Mayo Development Company invites applications for once-off funding under the Local and Community Development Programme 2012 Small Grants Scheme from voluntary and community groups/agencies based and/or working in the area Tourmakeady.
Applications for grants should be between €500 and €2,500 and projects must prioritise marginalised people and groupings within the community of Tourmakeady.
Grants will be made available in the following three areas Information and guidance supports and events Training and education programmes (excluding labour market training), including youth initiatives and cultural/recreational programmes Supports for community groups
Groups may apply for more than one project and successful grantees must have their projects completed by mid-November.
All applicants are encouraged to contact a member of the LCDP team in South West Mayo Development Company prior to submitting an application or to drop our clinic at the following time 8th August 2012 - Tourmakeady Hall, Tourmakeady, 4 – 7.30 pm

Wedding
The wedding has taken place of Miss Una Ni Eanacháin, Tourmakeady, to Mr. Niall Donoghue, Srah, Tourmakeady. The ceremony was performed by Fr. Desmond Grogan, assisted by Fr. John Kenny.
The bride was given away by her father Owen and the bridemaids were Siobhan Ni Eanacháin, Kathleen Hession, Cristin Ui Stunduin and Roisin Nic Chonnail.
Best man was Micheál O Máille and the groomsmen were Micheál Lally, Paul Keogh and Conor Brennan.
The flower girls were Seoidin Stunduin, Ailbhe Stunduin, Aoife Ni Cheallaigh and Cliodhna Ni Chonghaile. The page boys were Maidhe Og Stunduin, Owen Hugh Hession, Colin O Conghaile and Jack Cummins.
Readings were given by Lindsay Donoghue and Christopher Belton. Hymns and music were by Cilla Horan, Michelle and Adrian Burke, with the Communion reflection given by Paula Gavin.
GAA news
Tourmakeady underage footballers made history for the club on Sunday, July 29, at McHale Park when the Under 14 team defeated Claremorris in the county Under 14 championship on a scoreline of 3-20 to 5-4 thanks to goal-scorers Michael Morrin and Frank Carr.
It was a great all-round performance and thanks go to the management team of Frank Carr and Tom Whelan.
The minor team made it a double for Tourmakeady when they defeated Parke in the county final with a scoreline of 3-10 to 3-9.
A Darren Kelly double plus a Mike Burke goal were the major scores in this nail-biting final.
Benefit
The friends of Timmy Kelly are holding a benefit dance on Saturday night, August 4, in the festival marquee at Paddy’s, Tourmakeady. All monies raised will go to Timmy Kelly’s medical costs.

Ballintubber Store Co-Op will be open to the public on Friday, August 3. Michael Corrigan and his team will be dealing in agri/hardware, animal feeds, etc.
Music
On stage at Máire Luke’s tonight (Tuesday) is Nathan Carter and his dance band. Admission is by ticket only, which cost €15. A huge crowd is expected for one of Ireland’s top bands.

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service art holding a donors’ clinic in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, today (Tuesday) and again on Wednesday, August 1, and Thursday, August 2, from 5 to 8.30 p.m. each day.
