Death of Jim Lally
THE death has taken place of Jim Lally, Gortnacullin, Srah, Tourmakeady, at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, on Tuesday, January 22.
Jim was one of Tourmakeady’s better-known parishioners. Jim survived a life-threatening accident on his farm in 1989 when he lost one of his hands.
Following a long term of treatment and care, Jim made a great come back and once again took up farming.
Prior to farming Jim worked for many years in Chicago, where he met Brenda Conway from Bellacorrick. After they married they returned to Mayo and they took on the running of the Bungalow Tavern and Castle Bistro, Castlebar.
Jim and Brenda returned to Tourmakeady and reared five children - Cathy, Brenda, Seamus, Robert and David.
Large crowds attended his removal. On Thursday his remains were removed from St. Mary’s Funeral Home to Tourmakeady Church where they were received by Fr. John Kenny, P.P., and Fr. Paddy Gilligan, P.P., Cong.
Burial took place on Friday, January 25, following Mass celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, assisted by Fr. Chas Guthrie, Castlebar, Fr. Des Grogan, Partry, Fr. Martin Costello, S.M.A., Ballinrobe.
Readings were given by Sinead Lally (daughter-in-law) and Niall Tiernan (son-in-law) and the Communion reflection was given by Jim’s son, David.
He is survived by his wife Brenda, daughters Cathy and Brenda, sons Seamus, Robert and David, sisters Ann, Maureen, Teresa, brothers Pat, Andy, Mike, John, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sons-in-law Niall and Advar, daughters-in-law Sara, Méabh, Sinead, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, neighbours and cousins.
