Death
The death has taken place at his residence in Glensaul of Paddy Lally, following an illness. In his mid-70s, Paddy was one of the better-known members of the community for his care and kindness to all.
Paddy returned from exile some years ago to look after his parents. He loved his family and extended relations. In return, Paddy received lots of care and comfort in his later years, especially from Bridie Begley, his niece, and her husband Michael.
Large crowds attended his removal on both days. On Sunday, November 25, his remains were removed to Tourmakeady Church from St. Mary’s Funeral Home. Burial took place in the family plot following 11 a.m. Mass celebrated by Fr. John Kenny, P.P.
Terasa Collins and Margaret Slattery, nieces of Paddy, gave readings. Leanna Casey, Elaine and Orla Marrey read prayers of the faithful. The communion reflection was given by Anne Marie Ronan (a neighbour). Hymns and music were by Padraig Durcan, who also gave a lovely rendering of ‘Paddy’.
He is survived by his sisters Annie and Margaret, brother Johnny, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family and neighbours. May his soul rest in peace.

There was no winner of the Tourmakeady GAA lotto held in the Village Inn. The numbers drawn were 9, 17, 23 and 27. The jackpot is now €5,900. A meeting will be taking place in Belcarra Community Centre on Monday 3rd December at 8.00pm. The Ireland Reaching Out (Ireland XO) project is based on a simple idea; instead of waiting for people of Irish descent to trace their roots, we go the other way. Working through voluntary effort at a townland, village and parish level here in Ireland, we identify who left, and trace them and their descendants worldwide, pro actively engaging with them and inviting them to become part of an extended “virtual” community with their place of origin. In this way, the entire Irish Diaspora of 70 million can be systematically reunified online and invited back or to engage with their ancestral parish for the benefit of all. Ireland Reaching Out is attempting to reconnect people, create new bonds and build relationships with the diaspora that will go long into the future. Look forward to seeing you at the meeting all are welcome.
